Perils of Predatory Publishing: Assessing the Quality of Open Access Journals

The growth of open access publishing has created more opportunities to share research, but it has also led to the rise of predatory journals that prioritize profit over scholarly quality. Publishing in these journals can undermine the credibility of your research, negatively affect your reputation, and limit the impact of your work.

This workshop will help participants recognize the warning signs of predatory publishing and develop practical skills for evaluating the quality and credibility of open access journals.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Recognize common signs and practices of predatory journals.
• Assess the credibility and quality of open access journals.
• Harness institutional tools for evaluating scholarly journals (e.g., Cabells)
• Make informed decisions when selecting reputable journals for publishing their research.
