Editing Wikipedia

Wikipedia has turned 25 this year, and this collaborative, free knowledge base is still going strong. But Wikipedia is only as good as its contributors. University students and faculty are well situated to share our knowledge by writing and editing Wikipedia, even only a sentence at a time.

During this workshop, we'll talk a bit about how Wikipedia operates, including some of the more pertinent policies. We'll also start making edits and adding content, working collaboratively and helping each other learn.

Through this workshop, you'll learn:

- How Wikipedia operates, and how you can consider its consensus-based articles within the wider information landscape;
- How to make small and larger edits to existing Wikipedia pages to improve the quality of articles.

We will be working on several examples together, so you'll be ready to make your own contributions by the end of the morning. If you can, please bring a laptop or tablet that you feel comfortable working on, or sign out a laptop from the Library's services desk. Consider setting up a Wikipedia account ahead of time, or if you have one already, making sure you remember the password.
