Spotlight on Academics Film Festival

The Department of History is pleased to support the 5th Annual Spotlight on Academics Film Festival. Along with films from around the world, the 2026 festival will be featuring films by or about members of the Lakehead University community. The in-person version of the festival runs on Thursday and Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm and on Saturday afternoon fro 1:00 pm to 5 pm. A larger online version of the festival runs for free on Researchtv.ca from March 8 until March 15.

Spotlight on Academics is a documentary film festival with a difference. Our priority is to provide the audience with quality films that contain reliable information and perspectives that enhance our understanding of the world. Join us to watch amazing films, participate in Q&A’s and meet filmmakers.

A Tale of Two Qallunaat - directed by Kelly Saxberg

Yungilla: A Sustainable Community - directed by Dr. Ligia Sima-Bolaños

Seeds of the North - directed by Dr. Jyothis Thomas
