The Chemistry and Materials Science PhD candidate, Sai Dalli will present his research entitled Utilization of Wood-Based Prehydrolysate for the Production of High Value-Added Platform Chemicals on Thursday, May 11th 2017 at 9:00 am in ATAC 2015.

Climate change mitigation can be achieved by reducing the use of fossil based raw materials. Biorefining provides a sustainable alternative to producing biobased fuels and chemicals from renewable resources like forest and agricultural residue. This thesis contributes to this endeavor by developing new techniques and efficient methods for the production of biobased platform chemicals, which serve as precursors to a number of plastics and other products used in everyday life. The use of renewable poplar wood hemicellulose, one of the major components of woody substrates, for such conversions has been demonstrated in this study. The Lakehead University Archives is holding an open house Thursday and Friday, 10am-3pm, to celebrate Archives Awareness Week.

Documents and photographs will be on display, and archives staff will be able to talk with you about the historical collections and resources for researchers.

The General workshops will focus on the basics of D2L. Participants will learn how to navigate D2L, how to upload content, how to apply best practices, and how to access the many resources available to D2L instructors as they develop their courses.

The Quiz sessions will focus on the types of questions/responses available in D2L quizzes, how to upload questions, how to formulate "best-practices" questions for an online testing environment, how to mark quizzes, how to navigate issues of academic integrity, and how to access the resources on testing and test-making available to D2L instructors.
