MSc & PhD Student Positions Are Always Available for Excellent Applicants at Lakehead University in Canada but Preference Are Given to Domestic Applicants (Canadians or Permanent Residents of Canada)!

The students will do thesis project research in Canadian Government Labs. The students will be registered either in the Biology MSc Program or Biotechnology PhD Program at Lakehead University. The students can select their interested projects in our research group such as lignocellulosic biomass bioconversion, bioproducts, microbial enzymes, and bioremediation. For more information about our lab and projects, please visit our Lab Website: https://wqin.lakeheadu.ca. If you are interested in these positions, please email your cover letter updated CV and unofficial transcripts to Labposition@gmail.com. Thanks, and best wishes!

Research Internship Courses and Honours Thesis Opportunities May Be Available

Currently we have research internship course and Honours Thesis positions available for Lakehead students to work on one of the several projects such as [1] Microbial Dissolution and Enrichment of Gold and Other Valuable Metals from Electronics Circuit Boards. [2] Biodegrading Enzyme Producing Microorganism Assisted Extraction of Bioactive Compounds: Polyphenol, Saponin, and Quercetin Extraction from Dandelion, Milkweed, and Goldenrod. [3] Mixture of Organic Wastes and Rock-dissolving and Biodegrading Bacteria for Mining Tailing Sites Bioremediation and Vegetation.

(For Lakehead University Students Only, you may register for one or more of the following courses: Biol 3990, 3991, 4610, 4630 & Biol 4101 Honours Thesis, Applied Bio-Molecular Science (APBI): APBI 3811, 3813, 4811, 4813, Natural Resources Management (NMRT): NMRT 4259, 4270, and other research internship courses).

Graduate Studies Positions Available

MSc & PhD study positions on projects of Microbial Biotechnology for Biomass Biodegradation and Enzymes & Microbial Bioremediation and Environmental Cleaning. Preference will be given to the domestic applicants (Canadians or Permanent Residents of Canada). International students with a MSc or PhD degree for doing 2nd MSc or 2nd PhD degrees are welcome (course studies requirements may be waived for quickly getting a 2nd PhD degree). Biology Master’s Program is a two-year program https://www.lakeheadu.ca/academics/departments/biology/programs/grad/msc, and the Biotechnology PhD Program is a three-to-four year program http://biotechnology.lakeheadu.ca/.

The potential students will work on understanding molecular mechanisms of microbial degradation of lignocellulosic biomass and microbial conversion of biomass to value-added biobased products and industrial enzyme production, and bioremediation projects for environmental cleaning. The students will use microbiological techniques and molecular biology methods to manipulate microorganisms to enhance microbial enzymes yields and activities to improve lignocellulosic biomass degradation and conversion. Excellent Master’s students may directly transfer to the Biotechnology Program for PhD study after 8-12 months of study in his/her Master’s Program.
