T. Akilan received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Windsor, Canada. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Software Engineering at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Canada.

His research interests include object detection, action recognition, image/video processing and segmentation, information fusion, machine/deep learning, as well as natural language processing.
Volunteering:
In 2018/2019, he served as secretary of the IEEE Windsor Section, Canada. He also served as secretary in 2021 and director of outreach in 2022 for IEEE Winnipeg YP.
Currently, he serves as a reviewer for several journals including IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, and as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology.
