T. Akilan received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Windsor, Canada. He is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Software Engineering, Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Canada.

His research interests include object/action recognition, image/video processing and segmentation, and data fusion using statistical techniques, machine/deep learning, and natural language processing.
Volunteering:
In 2018/2019, he served as secretary of the IEEE Windsor Section, Canada. He also served as secretary in 2021 and director of outreach in 2022 for IEEE Winnipeg YP.
Currently, he serves as a reviewer for several journals including IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, and IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, and as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology.
