Media Literacy

This non-credit workshop will introduce you to various interactive and drama based exercises that help to develop media communication skills. The goal of this workshop is, firstly, to give students the tools to deconstruct and analyze media, and to develop an awareness of the creative components of media. This includes the following three (3) main areas of media:

Productive Thinking Skills

Learn to plan as well as present lessons more efficiently by teaching your students how to think critically and creatively.

The strategies that this non-credit workshop provides will help your students to learn more, remember more, and generally have more fun. These strategies should also help to cut down on your planning time and help students to be more productive in the classroom.

Singing Games and Dances for the P/J Classroom

This non-credit workshop is great for parents, teachers, and caregivers. Participants will experience the joy of dramatic play and make believe, which can enhance the development of many social skills and cognitive thinking skills in young people.

During this workshop, you will learn new games and dances that will appeal to children of all ages while learning how to provide rhythmic movement and creative play opportunities for children.

Sports First Aid

This two (2) day Sport First Aid certification workshop is excellent for anyone who requires Standard First Aid and CPR and who would like sports injury prevention and care to be the focus of the workshop. This sport-specific, first aid workshop will cover the following scenarios:

  • Planning for sport safety
  • Preventing injury through proper training
  • Preparing to help injured athletes
  • Your safety plan
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Injuries to soft tissue and bone

Photoshop for Photography

This 24 hour, non-credit workshop is for the photo enthusiast who wants to get the most out of their digital camera files using Photoshop.

Beginning with the moment that you capture an image, you will learn the techniques that the pros use to produce a photograph worth framing. Whether you like photographing landscapes or taking photos of family and friends, this course will give you the tools to produce vibrant images that will captivate the viewer.

How to Use PowerPoint in Your Classroom

Learn the basic and intermediate PowerPoint tools that can enhance and create diverse learning opportunities for students at all levels. This non-credit workshop covers the following areas:

Using Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to Create Adventure in the Ontario School Curriculum

This is an outdoor, hands-on workshop that will introduce you to the Global Positioning System (GPS) and provide the basics of setting up and maintaining a hand-held GPS unit. During this non-credit workshop, participants will learn about the main menu components of a GPS unit, compass navigation, satellites, topographic maps, and using the trip computer.

The E-Teacher software is an integrated system for teachers, which includes modules for outcome-based curriculum planning, assessment, and reporting. During this non-credit workshop, you will learn how to use the following E-teacher features:

Integrating Music into the Curriculum

Music can be an effective tool for teaching numeration, pulleys and gears, medieval studies, language arts, and more. Through musical activities, this non-credit workshop will show you how to achieve the key objectives in Ontario's Primary/Junior curriculum while having fun.

Math Skills Development (P/J) - YA

The Department of Professional Development is pleased to offer the 36 hour non-credit course “Math Skills Development” for students at the Faculty of Education.

The Math Skills Development course has been created for students who are either concerned about their mathematical competency, and/or wish to strengthen their mathematical understanding.
