Program Information

You enter into Year 3 of the three-year Bachelor of Arts (General major) program, and can complete your degree in as little as one year. You will need to complete two full course equivalents in the spring/summer terms prior to entering Year 3. 

Our Bachelor of Arts (General) degree program is a great choice if you are looking for a multidisciplinary education that allows you the freedom to explore your interests. The program provides you with the opportunity to discover what university really has to offer: the opportunity to develop skills in analysis, critical thinking, and good communication. Our General Arts program has fifteen departments within the Faculty of Social Science & Humanities to choose courses from: Criminology, English, History, Indigenous Learning, Interdisciplinary Studies, Languages, Media Studies, Music, Northern Studies, Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Visual Arts, and Women's Studies. 

Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission, you must:

  • Complete a two-year General Arts and Science (GAAS) Diploma or Liberal Arts Diploma from an accredited Ontario college, and
  • Achieve an overall average of at least 70%.

In addition, you must have completed at least two (2) one-semester college courses of advanced academic content.

If you have not completed these courses, you may be considered for admission. If you are granted admission, you may need to complete additional courses at Lakehead University.

  • Achieve an overall average of at least 75% based on your courses that are related to the business field.  

Depending on the college courses that you have completed, you may be required to complete makeup courses. Some makeup courses must be completed prior to the start of the program, while others can be completed as part of the program.

Business Diploma to the Bachelor of Administration Degree Transfer Program

Program Information

You enter into the final year of the three-year Bachelor of Administration program and can complete your degree in approximately one year, after the bridging program. If admitted, you must complete a spring/summer bridging program (with a minimum 60% average) in order to enter the fall term. The spring/summer term consists of four courses. If you did not complete an Ontario high school Grade 12 University-level Mathematics credit, or equivalent, you will need to complete Business 1036, instead of an open elective, during the spring/summer bridging program. 

The Bachelor of Administration program serves those students interested in obtaining a broad-based business education with an emphasis on general administration and entrepreneurship. This program provides a reasonable time frame for individuals employed full-time, seeking to complete a business degree on a part-time basis. Courses in this program are scheduled in the evenings, on a rotating basis, to permit students to take courses outside of regular work hours. For these reasons the program provides a vital service and linkage to the local business community.

The curriculum includes learning experiences in:

Computer Programming Diploma from Confederation or Georgian College to Honours Bachelor of Science (Computer Science major) Degree Transfer Program

Program Information

You enter into Year 3 of the four-year Honours Bachelor of Science (Computer Science major) program at the Thunder Bay and Orillia* campus, and can complete your degree in as little as two years. You must complete two spring/summer term courses in order to enter the fall term. 

*The transfer program offered in Orillia is currently undergoing a change in delivery location to the Barrie STEM Hub for September 2026 subject to University Senate approval.

Computer Science is a dynamic area that has and will continue to drive innovation. Therefore, a key part of our education is about the knowledge and skills needed in order to capture the new technologies of the future. The following are some of our educational aims:

  • Practical experience and theoretical understanding of design methods for the specification, programming and analysis of a wide range of computing systems.
  • The ability to plan and accomplish a substantial project.
  • Experience in co-operative working through team projects, with their demands on the management of partners and time. 
  • Skills in written and oral communication.
  • An appreciation of the environmental impact of computer and network technologies and the skills to limit this impact with innovative approaches

Our Department is small enough to give undergraduate students direct access to the professors along with ample access to high-end computing equipment.  We cover a broad range of computer science material including current object oriented software development technologies, web technologies, computer security, artificial intelligence, networking and related hardware technology, computer graphics, and a range of theoretical computing topics. Additionally, we include in many of our courses examples relating to current areas of interest and employer demand such as game programming, internet applications, mobile programming  and computer security.

Confederation College:
  1. Complete Confederation's two-year Computer Programming Diploma and:
  2. Achieve an overall average of at least 70%
  3. Have an Ontario high school Grade 12 University-level Advanced Functions (MHF4U), or equivalent, with a minimum of 60%

Prior to entering the program, you will need to complete Mathematics 1271 - Discrete Mathematics and Computer Science 1431 - Computer Programming II during the spring/summer terms.

Georgian College
  1. Complete Georgian's two-year Computer Programming Diploma
  2. Achieve an overall average of at least 70%
  3. Successful completion of COMP 2006* at Georgian
  4. Have an Ontario high school Grade 12 University-level Advanced Functions (MHF4U), or equivalent**, with a minimum of 60%

* If you did not successfully complete COMP 2006, makeup courses may be required.

** Georgian's MATH 1018 - Introduction to Technical Mathematics will satisfy the Advanced Functions course requirement.

Prior to entering the program, you will need to complete Mathematics 1271 - Discrete Mathematics and Computer Science 2412 - Data Structures during the spring/summer terms.

Graphic Design Diploma to Honours Bachelor of Arts & Sciences (Media, Film, & Communications major) Degree Transfer Program

Program Information

You enter into Year 3 of the four-year Honours Bachelor of Arts & Sciences (Media, Film, & Communications major) program and can complete your degree in as little as two years. All admits are required to complete 1.5 full course equivalents during the spring/summer term after their first year (e.g. Fall/Winter terms) at Lakehead. 

Our Media Studies program provides you with a well-rounded, interdisciplinary education emphasizing the critical analysis of media and the development of production skills. To gain a broad field of knowledge about the industry, you will explore topics related to the following media: video, new media, design, TV, radio, and sound art. Our Media Studies program will particularly allow you to immerse yourself in the cutting-edge world of social media - from production to dissemination to analysis - and beyond. Through hands-on labs and workshops, you will learn how new media is an accessible way to engage with our world and to challenge systemic problems like sexism, racism, homophobia, and social injustices of all kinds. If you are interested in learning how and why your cell phone has just as much cultural power as CNN, this program is for you.

Program Information

You enter into Year 3 of the four-year Honours Bachelor of Arts & Sciences (Environmental Sustainability major) program, and can complete your degree in as little as two years. Applicants transferring from Georgian College will need to complete one full course equivalent in the spring/summer terms prior to entering Year 3. In addition to the core Environmental Sustainability courses, you will have the opportunity to take courses in other discipline areas such as, biology, chemistry, economics, geography, geology, and natural resource management. 

Studying Environmental Sustainability will prepare you to play a crucial role in protecting the ecosystems and living organisms that make up our environment. You will gain both the scientific expertise and practical experience needed to solve modern sustainability challenges in Canada and around the world. Our program is known for producing environmentally conscious and responsible graduates with excellent communication skills and problem-solving abilities. Police Foundations Diploma, Protection, Security & Investigation Diploma or Community & Justice Services Diploma to Honours Bachelor of Arts & Sciences (Criminology major) Degree

Program Information

You enter into Year 2 of the four-year Honours Bachelor of Arts & Sciences (Criminology major) program and can complete your degree in as little as three years.  

The Criminology program emphasizes a practitioner orientation, with a variety of courses that introduce and familiarize students with the Canadian criminal justice system. Three thematic areas of focus run throughout the Program's course offerings: (1) social justice and human rights, (2) law and legal institutions, and (3) forensic science and criminalistics.

As a program graduate, you will be well situated to, among other things, consider careers in: Law enforcement (e.g., policing, border security), Corrections (e.g., institutions, probation), and Social work (e.g., victims services organizations, offender rehabilitation programs). You can also apply to further schooling that opens up additional career opportunities, such as: Law school, Teacher education, and Graduate school.

  1. Use the OUAC Undergraduate Application. You may need to create an account first, if you have never applied using the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) before. 
  2. Select the program Criminology (Pathways with All Ontario Colleges) (Orillia Campus only)The OUAC program code is AAW.
  3. As you proceed through the application process, use the Online Transcript Request to have your transcript(s) sent to us, if applicable: 
    1. We require all of your post-secondary transcripts (i.e. from all colleges and universities attended).
    2. We do not require your high school transcript.
    3. Some colleges do not add in progress courses to their transcripts. If you are currently completing courses, you are encouraged to upload a screenshot of your upcoming winter term courses to your myInfo account. You will receive your myInfo login credentials in an acknowledgement email from us upon receipt of your application (which can take a few days after you apply using the OUAC).
