Admission Requirements & Application Details for Returning Lakehead Students

Note: If you are a currently registered student at Lakehead University wishing to change program, you do not need to officially reapply to the university (some exceptions apply - see below). To change your program, please submit a Program Change through myInfo

Exceptions: If you are interested in Nursing, Visual Arts, Music, Engineering or Social Work, please submit an application through the Ontario Universities Application Centre.

General Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission as a Returning Lakehead Student, you must have previously been admitted, registered for and attended Lakehead University classes. In other words, you:

  • Attended Lakehead University and successfully completed university-level course work,
  • Meet Lakehead University's regulations,
  • Satisfy the Program-Specific Prerequisite courses for your program(s) of choice, and
  • Achieved a minimum overall average of 60%.

Note: Should your academic background not reflect your true potential for success, the Academic Support Access Program acts as an entryway for students whose academic average falls slightly below the required admission average. Applicants are automatically considered for admission to the Academic Support Access Program, subject to program eligibility.

 How to Apply

To apply to an undergraduate program offered at Lakehead University (excluding the Two-Year Bachelor of Education, Juris Doctor or One-Year Honours Bachelor of Social Work programs), you will:

Apply through the  Ontario Universities' Application Centre

Please note: If you have not been registered for two or more consecutive years, you must re-apply. Exceptions include students registered in the Faculties of Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Forestry, and the Schools of Nursing and Social Work, where you are required to re-apply after one year of non-registration.

Required Documentation

Applicants are to submit the following required documentation as part of the application process.

  1. Lakehead University Transcripts do not need to be sent.
  2. Official Transcripts and Course Syllabi (for any studies at another post-secondary institution after you were last enroled at Lakehead)

Transfer Credit*

*For previous Lakehead students that have studied at another post-secondary institution after last enroled at Lakehead only.

Transfer credit refers to the number of course equivalents you may be awarded towards your Lakehead degree based on previous (accredited) post-secondary studies at the university level.

Procedures & Eligibility for Transfer Credit:

  1. A minimum grade of 60% (C or equivalent) must be achieved in accredited degree level courses in order for transfer credit to be considered.
  2. Official transcripts, document evaluation fee and institutionally prepared course syllabi must be submitted to Enrolment Services - Undergraduate Admissions in order to process the transfer credit request. A transfer credit assessment will not be performed until these have been received.
  3. Enrolment Services - Undergraduate Admissions administers the awarding of transfer credits. 
  4. Up to a maximum of 15 full credits towards a four-year Bachelor's degree program, and a maximum of 10 full credits towards a three year Bachelors' degree program may be granted.
  5. The amount of transfer credit received depends on a number of factors including grades, previous course work, the program applied to at Lakehead University. 
  6. A minimum of 3 weeks from the date of receipt of all documentation (ie: official transcripts, course descriptions) is required by Enrolment Services - Undergraduate Admissions to complete a transfer credit assessment.
