Après-midi SLAM

Tout d’abord, le mercredi 24 septembre, nous avons visité l’école secondaire La Vérendrye pour rencontrer Mme Hardy pour un atelier de SLAM. L’atelier était présenté par le slameur Québécois, Élémo (Marc Olivier Jean). Lors de notre entrée dans la salle, nous nous sommes sentis calmes et prêts à explorer le monde du SLAM.
C’était une expérience enrichissante, qui nous a permis d’être créatifs.
En conclusion, c’est une activité qui vaut la peine d’être pratiquée car elle permet à tous les apprenants du français langue seconde de découvrir la poésie dans une forme expressive et motivante

Research Presentations

On April 15th, Languages’ two 2025 Honours Thesis students presented their research at The Study for about 25 students, faculty and community members.

Coralie Grenon presented her original research on the cinematographic body of work of québécoise film director and screen writer Anne Emond. Her presentation included quotations from her one-on-one phone interview with the filmmaker.

Hannah Lévêque presented her original reading of Michel Jean’s two autobiographical works, Kukum and Atuk, elle et nous. She emphasized how Jean cleverly and artfully subverts traditional (auto)biographical writing techniques and, in doing so, reappropriates his Indigenous family’s history.

The Department congratulates them both on their exceptional research which makes a unique contribution to their respective fields. Congratulations to Coralie and Hannah!

2025 Helen G. Mitchell Award Winner - Miss Sarah Tassone

This past April, Sarah Tassone, a recent graduate of the Department of Languages, was among the recipients of the 2025 Helen G. Mitchell Award, which recognizes students who demonstrate the attributes associated to exceptional FSL teaching. The Department was fortunate to host her for her final teaching placement and benefit from her teaching talent and dedication to French. Congratulations to Sarah!
