Global ME (Mobility Engagement) Week

Lakehead University International is excited to host our annual Global ME (Mobility Engagement) Week yet again!
From Monday, November 17th to Friday, November 21st come join us for in-person (Thunder Bay & Orillia), online, and hybrid events to learn more about our many study abroad opportunities. Our events will take place all week long and students will have the opportunity to learn how to take their learning global!
Our feature event is our Global ME Fair on Wednesday, November 19th in The Study in Thunder Bay, where you will have the opportunity to meet current inbound exchange students, returned exchange students, learn all about our international partner institutions, and much more. In Orillia, we will end off our week with our Global ME Speed Friending on Thursday, November 20th in the Alumni Commons in Orillia, where you will have the opportunity to connect with returned exchange students and learn about their experience participating in the program.
We will also be giving away some amazing prizes to some lucky students! For students who join at least 3 of our events, you will be entered into a draw to win 1) a $500 flight voucher, 2) a $250 flight voucher, or 3) a luggage set (valued at up to $200)!*

Global ME Partner Presentation #1 (Virtual) Are you interested in studying abroad and want to learn more from some of our partner institutions? Then look no further! On Monday, November 17th we’re kicking off our Global ME Week with some brief presentations from 4 of our partner institutions from around the world! Come join us from 9:30am-11:00am to hear from schools in Morocco, Sweden, Wales, and Hungary and learn more about what they have to offer. You will have a chance to learn about their campuses, course offerings, residence options, and ask any questions that you might have. We ask that you please register in advance, and we look forward to seeing you there! International Education Week Kick-off Event (TB and OR) Join us in the Agora or Learning Commons for culture sharing, activities, trivia, music, popcorn, and photo fun! Global ME Student Panel (Virtual) This session will feature 4 amazing Lakehead students who are currently studying abroad in Norway and Hong Kong! The panellists will share information about their first few months abroad, the study abroad planning process, tips and tricks, and answer audience questions. This is a great way to learn first-hand about the process to study abroad. Location: Virtual (must register for Zoom link)
Workshop - Exploring Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) (TB, OR, or Virtual) Join us for an engaging workshop to explore the concept of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) - an innovative approach that connects students and educators across borders through virtual collaboration. Whether you are new to COIL or looking to enhance your existing projects, this workshop offers practical ideas and real-world examples to help you create meaningful intercultural learning experiences. Info Session: Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program 2026-27 (Virtual) Offered by Global Affairs Canada and China’s Ministry of Education, the Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program (CCSEP) aims to foster deeper mutual understanding, build strong academic and professional ties between Canada and China, and develop future Canadian leaders with expertise and experience in China. The program provides an excellent opportunity to learn Chinese, and/or pursue post-secondary studies or research at leading institutions across China. Global ME Alumni Panel (Returned Students) (Virtual) Want to hear about studying abroad experiences directly from students? Then look no further! We’ve invited 4 previous Global ME students to discuss their experiences abroad in Norway and Singapore. The panellists will share information about the process of planning an exchange, highlights from their time abroad, tips for future students, and answer any questions that you may have. Global ME Insider Experience (OR) Meet our Global ME alum, Danielle, who spent Winter 2025 semester at York St. John University in the UK. Danielle will be sharing her experience living in the haunted city, and you'll have the opportunity to create your own ghost keepsake. No registration required. Global ME Fair *Come join our Feature Event* (TB) Feature event of the week! Join us in person at The Study to meet some of our current visiting exchange students and Lakehead students who have returned from their previous exchanges. Our current inbound exchange students will be able to provide you with tons of helpful information about our partner institutions from around the world. As well, some of our previous Lakehead exchange students (who have visited the UK, Hong Kong, Italy, Morocco, and more) will be able to share their experiences with being in the Global ME Program, how they spent their time abroad, favourite parts about their host destination, and how they prepared for their exchanges. MICEFA Info Session - Paris Exchange! (TB, OR, or Virtual) MICEFA (The Mission Interuniversitaire de Coordination des Échanges Franco-Américains) is an association that promotes exchanges between students in North America and Paris, France. Come join their info session geared at Lakehead students who are interested in planning an exchange to one of their 18 member universities in Paris and the Ile de France region. If you’re interested in studying abroad in France but don’t know where to start, this is the perfect info session for you! North2North Info Session (TB, OR, or Virtual) North2North is an exchange program that connects students to several institutions in Nordic regions such as Norway, Sweden, Finland, Greenland, Iceland and more (see the full list here). The Canadian North2North coordinator, Laurie Trottier, will be hosting a virtual information session for Lakehead students to learn more about the North2North program. You will be able to learn more about how to research the various destinations, financial aid, and the application process. O Canada: NSE Exchange Made Easy with Campuses to the North (Virtual) NSE (National Student Exchange) offers student exchanges all throughout the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands. This webinar “O Canada” features some of the exciting Canadian institutions which students are welcome to study abroad. Faculty Lunch & Learn: How to Support Students Abroad (Virtual) If you’re looking for advice on how to support outgoing Global ME exchange students, then look no further! We are hosting a Lunch & Learn info session for faculty who wish to learn more about the study abroad experience for students, and how they can best support students in their academic planning. During this session we will walk you through the different steps of students planning an exchange and learn about how you can provide them with academic advising for their studies abroad (including the Letter of Permission process!).
