I took advantage of Lakehead's Engineering College Transfer Program. One of the good things about Lakehead is the size of its classes. Small class sizes allow greater participation during lectures and labs, which promotes a better overall learning experience. I'm never shy to go to a professor’s office any time I am having a problem. They are always there to help me out.
Outside of class, I'm involved in the Engineering Student Society (ESS) as V.P Finance. Some of my duties include preparing budgets and handling all the monies associated with ESS. I am also responsible for loans, sponsorships, and external financing. The ESS puts on great events during orientation in the fall and the orientation for summer transition students coming in through the College Transfer Program.

Lakehead University is a respected and a well-known institution, and the summer transition program offered here is an awesome opportunity to achieve your Bachelors of Engineering in two years. It is a great opportunity to upgrade an engineering technologist designation to an engineer. Acceptance into Lakehead University did imply that the degree would require a lot of hard work but it would be worth it in the end.
Lakehead University has many professors with tremendous amount of practical engineering experience. Smaller class sizes assist students in becoming familiar with their colleagues and interacting with their professors on a personal level. Professors positively influence the students by projecting a thorough understanding of the course theory, which gives the students the potential to approach difficult courses with ease.
The student life at Lakehead is great, as there are many opportunities for students to come together as a group for internal and external activities. Unity of the students at Lakehead is strong; you exceed and succeed together as a group.
The Steel Bridge Team 2015 was a special project that I was involved in at Lakehead University. It is a remarkable experience to have the opportunity to work with an amazing team, well-equipped workshop, and a great advisor. I realized the importance of teamwork, as the input of each group member produces the desired outcome of the project. The Steel Bridge team in 2015 finished in first place, after the Regional competition, which keeps the Lakehead’s Steel Bridge tradition of ranking first in almost all Regional competitions. Participating in such activities are a great experience and allows students to apply their engineering knowledge they have gained throughout their learning journey.
In my opinion, Lakehead’s Alumni are well prepared to enter the engineering field with confidence and exceed their employer’s expectations. This is solely possible due to the rigorous training provided by Lakehead University, teaching their students the extensive engineering material and good time-management skills. Lakehead University graduates are hardworking individuals and are well equipped with deep understanding of the engineering field, promising them a successful career.

“Lakehead’s size allows for more personal relationships between professors and students. Each professor has had some sort of significant impact on me in different ways, whether it is by helping in the search for a job or by simply sitting down and sharing stories. I have been lucky enough to work at the Lakehead University Wood Science Testing Facility for two summers in a row, where I assisted in research in the field as well as in the lab. I began my undergraduate thesis through this job where I was able to process and analyse my own data to help further my studies. This employment opportunity has given me great exposure to the forest sector and experience working in my field.”

"Having gone through a Engineering Technologist program at an Ontario college, I came to Lakehead University because of the Engineering Transfer Program that is set up between Lakehead and many Ontario Colleges. The Engineering program here is well known and graduates are highly soughtafter upon graduation. The class sizes are small which gives students more opportunities to spend one-on-one time with their professors. Lakehead has an amazing environment to learn in and I find it very rewarding.
If you are looking for an opportunity to turn your Engineering diploma into a degree, Lakehead is the place for you."
