Honours Bachelors of Environmental Management
Thunder Bay, ON
I chose Lakehead for a number of reasons; first of all, staying in my hometown would save me some money that I cold direct into my athletic endeavors. Lakehead also has one of the best Nordic ski teams in the country and as Nordic skiing was my primary sport at the time Lakehead was the obvious. I toured other universities and something that I liked about Lakehead was the size. Smaller classroom sizes as well as a smaller University were something I liked. Also the entrance scholarships were better at Lakehead, coming out of high school with over 95% average, Lakehead gave me full tuition where as other university would have not.
I love to travel, ever since my family traveled around South America I have just wanted to go somewhere again. Through sport I have traveled around the country to places like Whitehorse and Quebec City but I have wanted to go overseas. This coming winter I am going to Helsinki, Finland to study Environmental Management for a semester. I am going through the North 2 North exchange program and would have been unable to do this without Lakehead and the awesome staff in the international office.
I believe exercise is a great stress and tension reliever and so by using sport I have been able to remove lots of stress and increase my productivity. Athletics has made me great at time management, as I have to also be able to fin in my daily workouts. I go crazy if I don’t exercise.
I was always told how in the Natural Resource Management faculty had an open door policy where you could just knock on the door of your professor and talk with them. I didn’t realize how nice this was. Having other professors in other faculties that have office hours and are usually short and very infrequent. The NRMT faculty wants you to be happy and to succeed.
