Sarah Klassen

"Coming from a very small high school, I chose Lakehead University in part because of its size. Even after the first week of classes, walking from building to building I was able to recognize faces of people who I had classes with and I really loved how that gave the campus a small community feel right away.
As an out of province student who knew no one in Thunder Bay when I arrived, I found that the student clubs on campus were an excellent way to meet many amazing people. I believe that getting involved with a club on campus was one of the most important decisions I made at Lakehead. I took a turn being on the executive team for the Lakehead University Christian Fellowship (LUCF) student club, which provided me excellent leadership and planning experience that I can now take into my future career. LUSU does an amazing job at supporting student run clubs and I believe that every student should make an effort to be a part of one or even start their own!
Smaller classes provide a chance for important discussion and a more “hands on” approach to learning. One of my professors included student suggestions into the course to tailor the course specifically to us. Professors such as this one, who demonstrate that their courses and students are important to them, are what increased the value of my academic experience at Lakehead."
