History Department Course Requirements Late Penalties Policy

The history department supports the implementation of fair and proportionate late penalties to encourage student time management skills. Such penalties, consistently applied, also ensure that students who submit their work on time are not disadvantaged in comparison to those who submit work late.

Late penalties should be outlined in course syllabi to ensure transparency, consistency, and fairness. Students should be aware that late penalties are not necessarily the same from one course to another and they are advised to consult their syllabi accordingly.

In courses in which late penalties would normally apply, extensions should be granted only in cases of documented illnesses, family emergencies, or personal problems (at the instructor's discretion). Students are advised to speak to their instructors promptly.
