Sustainable Food Systems Lab

The Sustainable Food Systems Lab is a hub for academics and community-based practitioners engaged in sustainable food systems research and action. It is a collaborative event and work space and a resource for researchers, practitioners and activists. We aim to build meaningful relationships that enable knowledge sharing between research, policy and practice with an ultimate goal of healthy, just and sustainable food systems for all.

Lakehead University Agricultural Research Station

Lakehead University Agricultural Research Station (LUARS), located in the city of Thunder Bay in Northwestern Ontario, Canada, was founded by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) in 1991. LUARS is committed to the establishment, operation, promotion, and transfer of agricultural research for the further development and diversification of the agricultural industry through small plot research and extension.

Lake Superior Living Labs Network 

The Lake Superior Living Labs Network (LSLLN)  serves as a platform to connect academics and community groups to develop new partnerships and collaborative initiatives across the Lake Superior watershed.

LSLLN has evolved out of a partnership between Lakehead University, the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Lake Superior College, Algoma University, and a number of non-profit organizations, businesses, First Nations and tribal governments across the region.

Community Ecology & Energetics Lab

Dr. Michael Rennie is an Associate Professor and Tier II Canada Research Chair in Freshwater Ecology and Fisheries at Lakehead University. As lead researcher of the CEE Lab, Dr. Rennie oversees his team’s use of whole-lake experiments, lab studies and archival data sets to investigate how lakes and fish populations respond to ecosystem changes such as climate warming, invasive species and contaminants.

Remedial Action Plan + InfoSuperior

Remedial Action Plans deal with environmental impairments in Areas of Concern on the Great Lakes. This includes chemical, physical, and biological degradation resulting in pollution and impacts to habitat. As part of our mandate, the North Shore RAP is making an active effort to stay engaged with political, environmental, economic, research, and social news across Lake Superior and the Great Lakes.
