Tamblyn, who has served as the Board’s Vice-Chair since October 2014, will assume the position of Chair following the Board’s Annual General Meeting in October 2016.

Apr 15	Georgian, Lakehead and the SCDSB to collaborate in support of international students (Orillia) Georgian College, Lakehead University and the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) have committed to work together to support international students. On April 15, they will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and commit to linking the K-12 and post-secondary education systems for international students in Simcoe County. A signing event will take place at the SCDSB Education Centre from 10 – 11:30 a.m.

As a paleo-ecologist, Pendea’s research helps to solve questions about how environmental change has affected humans historically. By understanding the effects of carbon on climates of the past, Pendea believes his research will help other scientists make more accurate environmental predictions for the future.

Mar 30	New evidence pushes back the time of disappearance of the Indonesian ‘hobbits’ (Homo floresiensis) (Thunder Bay) Eight years of further excavations and study at the Indonesian cave site of Liang Bua have pushed back the time of disappearance of the ‘hobbits’ of Flores (Homo floresiensis) from as recently as 12,000 years ago to about 50,000 years ago—around the same time that modern humans (Homo sapiens) first dispersed through the wider region and reached Australia.
