Feb 11	Gwynne Dyer a Popular Choice for Upcoming Speaker Series: February 12 (Thunder Bay) Lakehead University administration, faculty, staff, and students are gearing up to see Gwynne Dyer take the podium tomorrow night at the University's first Speaker Series instalment of 2010. Mr. Dyer presents Crawling from the Wreckage: Leveraging Crisis to Implement Change, a free public lecture that discusses the tasks faced by U.S. President, Barack Obama.

Stevenson, current Provost and Vice-President Academic at the University of Winnipeg, will become Lakehead University's sixth President and Vice-Chancellor on August 1, 2010, following the retirement of current President Dr. Frederick Gilbert on July 31, 2010.

Jan 22	Lakehead University Increases First Choice High School Applicants: More students list Lakehead University as first choice on university applications (Thunder Bay) Lakehead University has seen a 7.9% increase in the number of high school students who have listed Lakehead as their first university choice for the 2010-2011 academic year compared to last year at this time. Additionally, overall applications from high school students to Lakehead are up 6.2%. According to data recently released by the Ontario Universities Applications Centre (OUAC), universities across the province have comparatively lower average application increases of 2.7% and 2.1% respectively.

Dec 17	Christmas Comes Early for Local Family: Hammarskjold student wins first year tuition prize from Lakehead U (Thunder Bay) Daniel Carlson is one lucky guy! Among more than 600 students from Thunder Bay and surrounding areas, Daniel, a Grade 12 student from Hammarskjold High School, won the "First Year Tuition Prize" compliments of Lakehead University's Office of Student Affairs at the institution's recent Fall Preview Day event. The annual event is coordinated by the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, with participation from various University faculties, departments, student groups, and student volunteers.
Dec 16	First Century Burial Shroud and Disease Found in Jerusalem Tomb (Thunder Bay) Dr. Carney Matheson, Scientific Officer of the Lakehead University Paleo-DNA Laboratory as well as Anthropology Professor at Lakehead, is involved in another investigation of ancient DNA that could have significant implications. The paper presents scientific research conducted on "The Tomb of the Shroud," - a tomb found in Jerusalem dating back to the time of Jesus. The research poses great promise for future molecular understanding of ancient remains.
Dec 16	Lakehead Researcher Awarded CFI Funding: Laboratory upgrades foster research to protect Canada’s waterways (Thunder Bay) Lakehead University researcher, Dr. David Law, has been awarded a Leaders Opportunity Fund valued at $171,621 by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). Funding will offset costs associated with upgrading equipment and aquatic facilities in the Lakehead University Aquatic Research Laboratory, where Dr. Law and his colleagues conduct research to help protect the health of Canadian waterways.
Dec 14	Superior Science Recognized by Ontario Trillium Foundation (Thunder Bay) Lakehead University's Superior Science program, as part of Actua and its Ontario members, has recently been recognized by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Honourable Aileen Carroll, Minister of Culture, as a recipient of the Minister's Award.
