(Thunder Bay) Convocation is a wonderful time of the year for Lakehead University and its graduates in Thunder Bay and Orillia. The first 2011 Convocation ceremonies will take place on Friday, May 27.

(Thunder Bay) Lakehead University's Civil Engineering Steel Bridge Team fared well in all seven scoring categories at the 20th annual AISC/ASCE US National Student Steel Bridge Competition to win first place, beating 47 other universities. Lakehead is the only Canadian team to place in the top five overall since the inception of the competition and the first Canadian team to win the competition. Hosted by Texas A & M University, May 20 - 21, 2011, the annual competition attracts participants from across North America.

(Thunder Bay) Brian Stevenson, president of Lakehead University, announced the creation of the Chancellor's Task Force for the proposed Lakehead University Faculty of Law. The Task Force was created following an historic vote by Lakehead University Senate on May 13, at which both the proposed curriculum and the establishment of a Faculty of Law were approved.

(Thunder Bay) Jeff Irwin, CEO of Electrodynamics Inc., along with Dr. Richard Khoury, Assistant Professor, Software Engineering at Lakehead University, are pleased to announce that fourth-year software engineering students Tony Sinclair and Nicole Negherbon, together with Greg Toombs, electrical engineer, have been chosen as one of 15 finalists to participate in the Ontario Centres for Excellence (OCE) Discovery 2011 Connections Competition.

(Thunder Bay) Lakehead University's Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies and Faculty of Education host the inaugural Lakehead University Science Olympics.The event aims to increase awareness of the importance of science in everyday life. Contestants, comprising local grade nine and ten high school students, will participate in teams to take part in four skill-testing events.

(Thunder Bay) The Lakehead University Senate met today and officially approved the establishment of a Faculty of Law and proposed new law degree program. Today's decision follows closely on the Law Society of Upper Canada Benchers' vote in April to approve Lakehead's law degree program.

(Thunder Bay) The results of the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) Part II qualifying examinations are in: NOSM's residents completing training this spring ranked first among Canada's 17 medical schools in overall performance, and achieved a 100 percent pass rate. Residents rated first in the category of legal, ethical and organizational aspects of the practice of medicine, with above-average standing in the categories of patient interaction and data acquisition.
