May 17	Lakehead Engineering Students Degree Project Finalist at Ontario Centres for Excellence Discovery 2011 (Thunder Bay) Jeff Irwin, CEO of Electrodynamics Inc., along with Dr. Richard Khoury, Assistant Professor, Software Engineering at Lakehead University, are pleased to announce that fourth-year software engineering students Tony Sinclair and Nicole Negherbon, together with Greg Toombs, electrical engineer, have been chosen as one of 15 finalists to participate in the Ontario Centres for Excellence (OCE) Discovery 2011 Connections Competition.
May 13	Lakehead University Senate Approves Proposed Law Curriculum and Faculty of Law (Thunder Bay) The Lakehead University Senate met today and officially approved the establishment of a Faculty of Law and proposed new law degree program. Today's decision follows closely on the Law Society of Upper Canada Benchers' vote in April to approve Lakehead's law degree program.
May 13	Local High School Students Go For the Gold at Lakehead's New Science Olympics (Thunder Bay) Lakehead University's Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies and Faculty of Education host the inaugural Lakehead University Science Olympics.The event aims to increase awareness of the importance of science in everyday life. Contestants, comprising local grade nine and ten high school students, will participate in teams to take part in four skill-testing events.
May 11	NOSM Residents Rank First Nationwide on Medical Council of Canada Examinatio"‹ns (Thunder Bay) The results of the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) Part II qualifying examinations are in: NOSM's residents completing training this spring ranked first among Canada's 17 medical schools in overall performance, and achieved a 100 percent pass rate. Residents rated first in the category of legal, ethical and organizational aspects of the practice of medicine, with above-average standing in the categories of patient interaction and data acquisition.

Apr 1	Lakehead Professor Emeritus Honoured with Mineral Species Name and Joint-Principal Editor Appointment (Thunder Bay) Dr. Roger Mitchell, Professor Emeritus, Lakehead University Department of Geology, in recognition of his significant work in mineralogy, has been honoured with his name being given to a newly discovered mineral. Mitchell has also been appointed co-editor of Mineralogical Magazine, with Dr. Peter Williams, Professor of Geology and Crystallography, University of Western Sydney, Australia.

Mar 25	Lakehead University's Civil Engineering Steel Bridge Team Takes First Place Again at U.S. Midwest Regional Competition - Reaps Other Awards (Thunder Bay) A large contingent of Lakehead University civil engineering students traveled to the University of North Dakota to participate in the Annual ASCE Midwest Regional Student Conference and the AISC/ASCE Regional Qualifier Student Steel Bridge Competition. The Lakehead team had an incredible weekend with a first place in the steel bridge-building competition, second place in the technical paper competition, and a trophy for the Person-Mileage Participation award.
Mar 24	Award-Winning Book Captures French Folktales and Legends from Northwestern Ontario (Thunder Bay) Contes et légendes de la baie du Tonnerre (Éditions du Nord-Ouest, 2010), written by Alain Nabarra and Marie-Noëlle Rinne, current and former professors of languages at Lakehead University, and illustrated by Lakehead graduate Dany Michaud, has won the Billochet du Jongleur award. The book features tales and legends told in French by Northwestern Ontario storytellers.

From a fifth place national finish for the men's basketball team in Halifax, a silver medal for track stand-out Alistair Brown in Sherbrooke, to a bronze medal for the Nordic Lady Wolves in Canmore, Lakehead was winning all over the country.
