(Thunder Bay) The Lakehead University community will definitely recognize the music performed by the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra on Thursday, Oct. 11 in the Agora. Theme songs from E.T. and Raiders of the Lost Ark will be performed, as well as music by Beethoven and other composers that will definitely entertain. "This is a great opportunity to connect with the Lakehead University community," says Chris Wilkinson, TBSO General Manager. "We certainly enjoy performing in various venues throughout Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario." |

(Thunder Bay) Lakehead University sociology professor Dr. Chris Southcott recently hosted Prince Albert II of Monaco during the Prince's visit to the Northern communities of Iqaluit in Nunavut and Kuujjuaq in Northern Quebec as part of University of the Arctic (www.uarctic.org). University of the Arctic is a network of universities, colleges, research institutes and other organizations located across the Circumpolar North - which Lakehead is a founding member. |

(Thunder Bay) Lakehead University Economics Professor Dr. Livio Di Matteo is joining the ranks of the senior fellows at the Fraser Institute for his research in health care spending and public finance. "It's nice to be recognized. Becoming a senior fellow at the Fraser Institute has the potential to be quite interesting," Professor Di Matteo says. This means Professor Di Matteo can participate in research projects with assistance from the Fraser Institute, one of Canada's leading policy institutes. |

(Thunder Bay) Innovative research initiatives have earned Lakehead faculty and students more than $1.5 million over five years in Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) funding. Lakehead researchers from various fields such as anthropology, natural resources management, history and psychology are spearheading projects that touch on key aspects of the human experience. |

(Thunder Bay) Lakehead University has received a $1,647,075 grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) to train highly qualified personnel in medical imaging. The funding has been awarded through NSERC's Collaborative Research and Training Experience Program (CREATE). The purpose of the program is to support the training of highly qualified students and postdoctoral fellows from Canada and abroad through the development of innovative training programs. |

(Thunder Bay) Lakehead's Department of Anthropology has teamed up with Superior Science to offer grade 5-9 children the chance to become crime scene investigators (CSI's) at a hands-on forensic camp. During these one-week camps, young investigative minds apply real forensic techniques, such as fingerprinting, DNA analysis, forensic odontology, ballistics and forensic entomology to solve age-appropriate crime scenes. |

(Thunder Bay) Lakehead University researchers have been awarded numerous Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Discovery Grants, allowing them to continue pursuing their ground-breaking work, from biology and chemical engineering to physics and geology. In addition to NSERC's Discovery Grants, several faculty and graduate students have received other NSERC funding awards, bringing the total amount conferred to Lakehead researchers to over $2 million. |
