Dr. Salem, Assistant Professor of Structural Fire Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering, was interviewed by CTV News Channel on Saturday; January 25th, 2014, in the wake of the blaze that ravaged L'Isle-Verte Elderly Residence in eastern Quebec early on Thursday; Januray 23rd. The rescue crews are dealing with about 60-centimetre-thick layer of ice at the scene, which had formed soon after the blaze was extinguished. Thirty-two people are now presumed dead after this fatal fire. In this interview, Dr. Salem discussed a number of fire safety issues, as well as fire protection measures and fire sprinkler system requirements in buildings.
