Previous Teaching/Work:

Teaching 'Areas':  I have taught in years one and four in the undergraduate nursing program. Year One: foundational nursing theories and concepts in nursing, and care and comfort skills. Year Four: nursing leadership (patient safety, patient-family focused care, managing risk, and relational perspectives of nursing leadership and socially just nursing practice). I teach at the graduate level: nursing theory and philosophy.

Teaching Approaches: My teaching practices are rooted in a relational practice perspective as articulated by Gweneth Hartrick Doane and Colleen Varcoe, with a particular interest in narrative and aesthetic ways of knowing, informed by hermeneutic, critical feminist, post colonial and post-structural inquiry. Approaches that appreciate lived experience, and deconstruct and reconstruct issues of social location, power, and privilege at the intrapersonal (self), interpersonal (self/other/environment), and contextual (institutional, social, political, economic, historical) level.

Research Interests:

I am a qualitative researcher, committed to narrative, story-based, and art-based inquiry. My scholarship interests include unearthing the meaning of--socially just nursing practice, moral distress, and expressions of well-being (including resilience, compassion, resistance), in contemporary nursing practice.
