Ecologist (exp Global)
I am a population and community ecologist who focuses on species conservation, socioecological resilience, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Past studies include assessing the adaptive capacity of people and forests to climate change, identifying societal and institutional barriers to biodiversity conservation, and examining how digital learning tools influence student motivation and success. I have also investigated potential biocontrols for Armillaria root rot fungus, examined the feeding preferences of white-tailed deer after clearcutting, determined optimal growing conditions to enhance fibre quality of Cannabis sativa, and examined how exercise can reduce the symptoms of depression.
While my professional interests are broad, the unifying theme has been to enhance our understanding of the drivers of socioecological system change, and ultimately, to help improve the way we live, learn, and interact with our built and natural environments.
I also have extensive industry experience (15+ years) working as an environmental consultant for a number of environmental engineering firms across Canada
