Tim Lade (he/him/his) is an award-winning student housing and residence life professional with over 18 years of experience across Canadian post-secondary institutions.  He has served as the Residence Area Coordinator at Lakehead University’s Orillia campus since 2022, and has extensive expertise in community and student leadership development, crisis and emergency management, recruitment and training, and large-scale program development, all of which are attuned to supporting students in fulfilling their potential.  Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Film Studies from Western University and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Royal Roads University, where his research focused on leadership development within residence communities and its impact on student success and retention.  Over his career, Tim has worked at institutions including St. Francis Xavier University, MacEwan University, Sheridan College, the University of Manitoba, the University of King's College, and Lakehead University, and has lived on campus for over two decades.

A recognized student housing scholar-practitioner and master team builder, Tim specializes in values-based community creation, experiential learning, and proactive student wellness initiatives.  His leadership has driven measurable outcomes, including improved GPA and retention, reduced conduct issues, and increased staff engagement.  Notable achievements include leading the relaunch of the Lakehead Orillia residence life house system, thereby improving occupancy and staff recruitment by 300%, increasing student-staff retention by 50% and RA GPA by a full percentage point, and creating a leadership development tool that has been adopted at several Canadian universities.  Tim has presented at national and international conferences and consulted across North America and Europe.  He plans to pursue an EdD in Education and remains committed to shaping equitable, just, and empowering campus environments.  Outside of work, Tim is a science fiction and food-competition enthusiast, voracious reader, avid movie-theatre fan, and self-proclaimed expert on Star Trek.

Tim believes that when you hold an empathetic space for students, you can help them to fulfill their potential and achieve their academic goals.  He remains wholly committed to student success and creating a residential experience that is safe, secure, civil, equitable, just, respectful, and engaging.  It is more than just a head in bed; it is an on-campus experience where students can be their ideal selves through continuous psychological safety.
