Professor Sara Janes is Lakehead University's Archivist. Her work focuses largely on acquisitions, electronic records initiatives, and outreach and public engagement. Her professional experience also includes work in municipal and provincial government, and in non-profit archives. She has taught numerous courses in archives and records management, and delivered public workshops on personal archiving and preservation issues with the multitude of formats in how information is now stored and retrieved.

Janes is involved in the local history and archival community, and has presented papers on archival education, ethical issues arising from records access, and user interactions with online exhibits. Additionally, she has also presented conference papers for the Archives Association of Ontario and The Archives And Technology Unconference, on user interactions with online exhibits and non-traditional use of archival photographs.
