Study Permit Extension Workshop

This session is for current international students at Lakehead University who will require a study permit extension. You must keep your study permit active the entire time you study in Canada and always apply for an extension before it expires. Join our International Student Advisor to learn more about the process and what is required.

Working in Canada with TBMA

Are you new international student to Canada, and have questions about working while you study? Is this the first time you have worked abroad? There are important things for you to know when searching for employment, as well as regulations as a worker in Canada. Please join this session to find out more details on working while you study. This session is presented by TBMA in association with COSTI Immigrant Services and the Ontario Government.

County of Simcoe Familiarization Tour

Lakehead students who are new to Central Ontario are invited to take a free tour of local services, including stops to learn more about local employment and recreational opportunities in the County of Simcoe.

Students who wish to join us will need to secure their seat by RSVP'ing - via County of Simcoe website using the link below. Please note: in addition to completing the RSVP form, students make a $5.00 donation to the Lakehead food panty. Secure your spot by bringing your donation to Katie S. after you complete the online form.

Northern Nature Connect: A Bird's Eye View

The last NNC session will take you on an off campus excursion to the local McKellar Island Bird Observatory. We will learn about migratory songbirds and their Save the SongBirds Project. You will get to see first hand how they catch and release the birds, band them for tracking of species and you will even get to hold and release a bird as part of the experience! Our hosts John and Brady will tour us through the area and talk about the important connections between the land, native species and songbirds.

Northern Nature Connect: Exploring the Labyrinth

Did you know we have a beautiful Labyrinth right on campus?  Join me this week as we welcome a special guest and Lakehead Alumni Dr. David Greenwood. Dr. Greenwood will share with us about the history, uses and benefits of the Labyrinth and guide us through a walk.  No experience required!

Following our Labyrinth experience we will reflect together and enjoy some light snacks and refreshments under the shade of the birch trees.

This event is fully outdoors.  Minimal walking and washrooms are nearby.

Northern Nature Connect: Creekside Creations

Session 2 will take us to shaded rocky shores of the McIntyre River right on campus.  Join me amongst the trees to explore some Creekside Creations.  This week we will engage with our creative spirits and let nature inspire us! We will have several craft activities for you to choose from and take a little bit of nature home with you :)

*This event requires walking through the forest on trails and will be fully outdoors. There is also no washroom facility at the location.

Northern Nature Connect: A Guided Forest Therapy Walk

Forest Therapy is based on the Japanese practice of "Shinrin-yoku" (Forest Bathing), which is a form of therapeutic relaxation in which your senses are immersed in nature to relax, heighten awareness and form a deeper connection to nature. As a certified guide I believe in the healing power of nature. Walks provide an intentional space to slow down, breathe deeply and remember the quiet strength that lives within you.
