Seeking Employers: Network with your future employers

Are you planning to graduate this year? Would you like to learn more about employers who might like to hire you for full-time or co-op positions available right here in Simcoe County? Register for this interactive networking event. Employers from the community will come to share information with you about their own career stories and about careers available in their businesses. Discover graduate career opportunities, and learn more about your options here in Orillia and within Simcoe County. Light refreshments will be provided - please register in advance so that we can prepare enough options for everyone.

Refresh Sleep Program

The Refresh Sleep program aims to provide Lakehead students, staff and faculty with the skills and strategies to achieve more restful nights.

When you join the Refresh Sleep program, you will receive a weekly email for eight weeks that has an attached PDF with important information and tips that have been proven to help improve sleep. It is encouraged to spend at least thirty minutes per week with the program information. The materials include information about:

Staying healthy this semester

As the new school year begins, be sure to make your health a priority! A suite of health and wellness services are available to you on campus through Student Health and Wellness to help you stay healthy and get the most out of your Lakehead experience.

Nurse Practitioner
The nurse practitioner is available for all students and provides many primary care medical services, including:

  • Physical/medical exams
  • Sexual health, education, STI testing
  • Mental health concerns
  • Birth Control, PAPs, pregnancy testing
  • Gender affirming primary care for trans and non-binary students
  • Immunizations
  • Chronic health concerns
  • Cold, sore throat, flu
  • Musculoskeletal injuries
  • Skin conditions, warts, and mole treatments

Counsellors
Free, short term, non-judgmental, client centered mental health counselling is available in person or virtually for all students.

Naturopathic Doctor
Dr. Michelle provides free naturopathic services to Lakehead students on Wednesdays. Naturopathic services include:

  • Health assessments
  • Nutrition and lifestyle counselling
  • Acupuncture
  • Cupping
  • Support with energy, hormone health, mood, digestion, and stress

Chiropractor
Dr. Tara and Dr. Allison offer chiropractic services on Thursdays at a student rate of $55/appointment. Chiropractor services are covered by most extended health benefits plans. Services include hands on adjustment, therapeutic exercises, and muscle stimulation techniques to address concerns including:

  • Headaches
  • Neck and back pain
  • Sports injuries
  • Foot pain
  • Exercise rehab

Booking an appointment
All health services offered through Student Health and Wellness are by appointment only. You can request an appointment through MySuccess, then Student Health and Wellness staff with contact you to book your appointment.

Where do appointments take place?
All in-person appointments occur in the Wellness Centre in OR 1012, on the first floor of the residence building. Some of the services are available virtually if that is preferred.

(OR) safeTALK

safeTALK is a 4-hour, in-person workshop to build skills in suicide prevention. Participants will learn how to recognize and engage with someone thinking about suicide, overcome attitudes that act as barriers to help, talk openly about suicide and connect with intervention resources for further support.

Through presentations, audiovisuals, small group discussion and scenario practice, you will learn a 4-step TALK model and practical steps to help activate a suicide alert that connects people having thoughts of suicide with more specialized intervention care and relevant resources.
