I chose Lakehead University because of its convenience (in my hometown), and for the Social Work and Indigenous Learning programs. I wanted to gain practical experience in my field of interest and the Social Work program offers an excellent balance between theory and putting the theory into practice. In fact, I found work after graduating with the organization where I did my 4th year student placement.

I entered LU as a mature student. I had tried college a couple of times with little success. It was just not for me. Hearing of the Outdoor rec program at LU gave me hope that the third time would be the charm; and it was.

I chose LU because of the Outdoor Rec program, but also because of its location. I wanted a new experience away from my home and Thunder Bay provided a rich outdoor environment in which to learn and play.

"I chose Lakehead University for a number of reasons. I am originally from Dryden, a 3 hour drive away from Thunder Bay so going to Lakehead allowed me to remain close enough to home that I could go home on the weekends if I wanted to. Because Lakehead is a smaller university, I like the idea of smaller class sizes, the personable atmosphere and the chance to get to know my profs and have one on one time with them which just wouldn't have happened elsewhere.

"Lakehead University was an easy choice for me. What caught my eye was how approachable and informative the recruitment officers were when presenting information about Lakehead. They made a point to express that you won’t just be a number but a name to your professors. Also what was attractive was the smaller class sizes, this would give me more opportunity for my questions to be addressed and to receive one on one tutoring. I never found school easy, so I was sold.
