Program Information

The study of environmental issues is becoming increasingly multidisciplinary, taking into consideration socio-economic, cultural and political actions and consequences in addition to scientific analysis. Our Environmental Studies program will provide you with the background to understand and evaluate environmental issues and solutions from a multitude of perspectives. You will gain the business skills, scientific expertise and practical experience needed to solve modern environmental and sustainability challenges. 

How the Transfer Program Works

You enter into Year 3 of the four-year Honours Bachelor of Environmental Science (Biology major) program, and can complete your degree in as little as two years.

Admission Requirements

To be consider for admission, you must:

  • Complete a three-year Environmental Technology Advanced Diploma from an accredited Ontario college, and
  • Achieve a 75% overall average.

  1. Use the OUAC Undergraduate Application. You may need to create an account first, if you have never applied using the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) before. 
  2. Select the program Environmental Science & Environmental Studies (Pathways with All Ontario Colleges) (Thunder Bay Campus only). The OUAC program code is AAZ.
  3. Select Biology (Environmental Science) using the Subject of Major Interest drop-down menu.
  4. As you proceed through the application process, use the Online Transcript Request to have your transcript(s) sent to us, if applicable:

    2. We do not require your high school transcript.

Program Information

The Water Resource Science program offers valuable knowledge and necessary skills to enable Lakehead graduates to achieve water related careers, protecting and advocating for our most valuable resource. This science based program produces graduates who will have the knowledge and skills necessary to solve programs concerning the natural environment.

The degree program in water resource science offers students the possibility of enrolment in an interdisciplinary course of study with emphasis on the scientific understanding of aquatic systems. Natural systems are composed of interacting individual elements which are studied by biologists, geographers, geologists and chemists. A holistic approach to understanding the interacting roles of various elements in a natural system must incorporate knowledge from each of these disciplines. The structuring of the Water Resource Science program accomplishes this by providing the student with a well-rounded knowledge base.

You enter into Year 2 of the four-year Honours Bachelor of Science (Water Resource Science major) program, and can complete your degree in as little as three years.

Modern Natural Resources Management is about people, science and technology. It manages the natural environment for the benefit of society, through the application of both natural and social science. As a student, you will acquire a complement of business skills, scientific expertise, along with practical experience; in fact, everything necessary to create meaningful and lasting solutions environmental challenges of today. You have the opportunity to discover methods that will sustain our forests and ecosystems for generations to come. Should you decide to enrol in Environmental Management, you may choose between three options after your second year of study: Wildlife Conservation and Management, Sustainable Land Use, or Conservation Management and Planning.

Graduates of the Honours Bachelor of Environmental Management degree may apply to join the Canadian Association of Environment, and they may also seek accreditation for their Environmental Professional Certification with ECO Canada.

Graduates who successfully complete the Wildlife Conservation and Management specialization are eligible for accreditation as a Certified Wildlife Biologist by the Wildlife Society.

How the Transfer Program Works

By focusing your Forestry studies within a specialization, you will delve deeper into the areas of Forest Management, Wood Science, or Forest Health and Protection.

Lakehead's Honours Bachelor of Science in Forestry degree is nationally accredited by the Canadian Forestry Accreditation Board. This means that graduates of both the co-op and non co-op programs meet the academic requirements of membership in a number of professional forest associations in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

Graduates are also qualified for membership in the Canadian Institute of Forestry, and they are eligible to apply for registration with the Ontario Professional Foresters Association to obtain their Registered Professional Forester (R.P.F.) designation.

Practical Nursing Diploma to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Transfer Program

Program Information

Nursing is a profession that blends science with caring, and technology with humanity. Nurse researchers study the science and the art of caring. Nurse clinicians use technology to improve their nursing care. Whether in the hospital, in the school, in long term care, in industry, in the community or in the home, nurses make a difference. You too will make a difference at Lakehead University. At Lakehead University, we offer a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program. We also offer a three-year compressed BScN program. In the compressed program, you will be required to enroll in spring/summer courses; however, this fast-tracked program allows you to write the Nurse Registration Examination one year earlier than students in the four-year program.

How the Transfer Program Works

You enter into Year 1 of either the four-year BScN program, or the three-year Compressed BScN program, with 2.5 full course equivalents of transfer credits. These courses are added to your Lakehead transcript.

Admission Requirements

To be consider for admission and for transfer credit, you must:

  • Complete a two-year Practical Nursing diploma from an accredited Ontario college
  • Achieve an overall average of at least 70% (for the 4-year program) or 80% (for the 3-year, compressed program),
    • Meeting the minimum average requirement does not guarantee admission. 
  • Be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and are eligible to practice in Ontario, and
  • Meet the prerequisite requirements.

Prerequisite Requirements:

All applicants must meet the prerequisite requirements. This includes the following Ontario Grade 12 university-level courses or equivalent: English (ENG4U), Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) and Mathematics (MCV4U, MDM4U or MHF4U). A grade of 60% is required in each course. The course content of the Practical Nursing diploma may not satisfy these requirements. In many instances, applicants tend to be deficient in Chemistry and Mathematics. All applicants are encouraged to speak with Student Central regarding their eligibility.

Strength & Sport Conditioning Diploma to Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology Degree Transfer Program

Program Information

At Lakehead University the School of Kinesiology studies human movement within a variety of contexts, including but not limited to: anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, psychology, sociology, motor control, adapted, and sociocultural.

Students of Kinesiology will gain an understanding of the science of human movement; an ability to think analytically, critically, and creatively and to make decisions on the basis of evidence, ethics, and values; knowledge, competencies, and skills to pursue and achieve professional certifications; and a holistic appreciation of kinesiology examined from a lifespan perspective that includes application to all populations.

How the Transfer Program Works

You enter into Year 2 of the four-year Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology program, and can complete your degree in as little as 2.5 years. You will be required to complete an online bridging course (e.g. Kinesiology 0517 - Kinesiology Program Preparation) during the spring/summer term prior to the start of the program.

  1. Programs & Faculties from the menu,
  2. Undergraduate Programs from the Faculty of Health & Behavioural Sciences section, 
  3. School of Kinesiology from the list of programs, and 
  4. Select the option for your college and diploma. 

Admission Requirements

To be consider for admission, you must:

  • Complete Canadore College's two-year Strength & Sport Conditioning Diploma, and
  • Achieve an overall average of at least 75%.

Application Process

To apply, please:

  1. Use the OUAC Undergraduate Application. You may need to create an account first, if you have never applied using the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) before.  
  2. Select the program Kinesiology (Pathways with Select Ontario Colleges: Boreal, Cambrian, Canadore, Georgian, and Sault College) (Thunder Bay Campus only). The OUAC program code is ABP.
  3. As you proceed through the application process, use the Online Transcript Request to have your transcript(s) sent to us, if applicable: 
    1. We require all of your post-secondary transcripts (i.e. from all colleges and universities attended).
    2. We do not require your high school transcript.
    3. Some colleges do not add in progress courses to their transcripts. If you are currently completing courses, you are encouraged to upload a screenshot of your upcoming winter term courses to your myInfo account. You will receive your myInfo login credentials in an acknowledgement email from us upon receipt of your application (which can take a few days after you apply using the OUAC).
