Walking with our Sisters Teach-In: Unpacking Settler Colonialism
The Walking With Our Sisters-Thunder Bay planning committee is requesting your assistance to ensure the success of this unique and sacred commemoration. The Thunder Bay Art Gallery will be hosting Walking With Our Sisters from September 19 – October 12, 2014.
Walking With Our Sisters is a Commemorative Art Installation made up of 1,725 pairs plus 108 pairs of children’s vamps of moccasin tops that have been created by over 1,300 caring and concerned people to honour and pay respect to the lives and existence of the missing and murdered Indigenous women across North America. Each pair of moccasin tops represents an Indigenous woman who is missing or murdered. This project has been entirely crowd sourced and supported by thousands of Indigenous and non-Indigenous women and men across North America who care deeply about this issue. All of our efforts in bringing this exhibit to life have been on a strictly-voluntary basis and rely on the generous support of community members.
As a part of the installation a variety of events have been scheduled from September 19-October 12, 2014. Come out, connect and enjoy Teach-Ins, Film Screenings, Sharing Circles, Silent Auction, Conversation with WWoS committee and so much more!
If you are interested in volunteer opportunities or would like to partner with the WWoS committee please feel free to contact, Diana Lidemark at wwostbay@gmail.com.
