We are excited to honour and celebrate the graduation of Indigenous students Lakehead University Class of 2022

The Office of Indigenous Initiatives invites graduates from the Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses to attend a virtual graduation celebration!

Featuring a keynote address by Nadia George, Actor • Environmentalist • Media Personality

Jacqueline Caniguan Jacqueline Caniguan Caniguan, Mapuche Lafkenche (from the coast), linguist, academic from the University of La Frontera, Master in Indo-American Linguistics, CIESAS- Mexico (Center for Research and Higher Studies in Social Anthropology)- Jacqueline is currently doing a Doctorate in Linguistics from the University of Leiden, the Netherlands.

Jacqueline Caniguan Caniguan’s work focuses primarily on Mapuche linguistics, sociolinguistics, Mapuche language teaching, and intercultural education. She has written scientific articles on the subject and given presentations at various venues and institutions. Parallel to her academic work, she actively participates in her community of origin and the Mapuche organization Identidad Territorial Lafkenche. Jacqueline is also a poet, and her work is published in various literary magazines and poetry anthologies both in Chile and abroad.
