Nicole Richmond

Nicole Richmond is an Anishinabe lawyer and wellness consultant that helps build capacity and supports Anishinabek nation-building in the areas of governance, education, employment, and child wellbeing. In her talk, Nicole will explore the role for allies in reconciliation. Using an Anishinabe knowledge framework, Nicole will build understanding about some of the perspectives that Anishinabek people and their organizations and governments work within, and will provide tips and tools to non-Indigenous allies to better understand their own perspectives, roles and responsibilities.

Register now to participate in Truth and Reconciliation Week 2022. This year’s national theme is “Remembering the Children.” Join us as we memorialize the children lost to the residential school system and honour Survivors and their families. Learning and commemorating the truth of our history is an important part of the path to Reconciliation.

The Indigenous Student Services Centre, in conjunction with Oshki-Pimache-O-Win; the Wenjack Education Institute, Confederation College, Seven Generations Education Institute, Matawa Post-Secondary Education, Northern Nishnawbe Education Council, and Eabametoong First Nation have planned and organized Maadaadizi 2022 which means starts a journey in the Ojibwe language.
 
We’re excited to once again host this event in-person at Marina Park on Saturday, September 10, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. We have set aside this special day to welcome post-secondary Indigenous students and their families to their respective institutions and to the City of Thunder Bay.
 
Pam Palmater is our Keynote Speaker and the day will include musical performances by Keith Secola and Nick Sherman. Information booths by various organizations will be set-up, children’s activities, prizes and refreshments will be available. This event is free and everyone is welcome to attend. We hope to see you there, rain or shine!
