An exploration of contemporary and socio-historical perspectives on food security in rural, northern and Indigenous communities. Depending on the location and instructor, we will examine contemporary debates on local-global food systems; food charity [food bank] vs. food sovereignty models; the social and health effects of food scarcity and the nutrition transition on well-being and identities; and the role of subsistence activities. We will also investigate responses and resistance strategies to food insecurity
