A survey of the study of food through a socio-cultural lens. We will examine the symbolic meanings of food and investigate how food practices intersect with gender, race, social class, age and place. We explore the realtionship of individuals in society to food systems, production and consumption patterns, health, nutrition and the body, the environment, food policy, and food security
