Meet & Greet with the Dean of Social Sciences & Humanities
The Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities is excited to host a Meet & Greet with the Dean for students on the Orillia Campus. This will provide a unique opportunity for students in programs in the Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities to have an open discussion with the Dean, Dr. Glenda Bonifacio.
Dean Bonifacio will be available from 11:30 am to 1 pm on February 13, 14 and 15.

Municipal Employer Partners Networking Event February 8
Career Services & Co-op is pleased to announce an exciting career exploration activity coming up on February 8 in the Alumni Commons at the Orillia campus. The event will feature hiring managers and leaders who work for municipalities close to campus. These guest employers will discuss their own career paths, and they will also answer questions from students about different types of roles that exist within regional and city government.
If you are wondering: "What exactly is a municipality, and what jobs do they offer?" Or, "How and where can I find a good paying position that will help me stay in this area after I graduate?", I hope you will attend.

International Research Internships for Undergraduate Students
The CALAREO IRME program is accepting applications for Summer and Fall 2024 research internships in Latin America.
The CALAREO IRME program, funded by the Government of Canada's Global Skills Opportunity (GSO) Program, is now offering research internships for Summer 2024 and Fall 2024. Nearly 100 internships are being offered in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico.
To be eligible for GSO funding, Lakehead students must be (1) a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and (2) be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program and be in good standing. Students from underrepresented groups (indigenous students, low-income students, and students with disabilities) are encouraged to apply and will receive extra support. Some internships may be eligible as a co-op placement.

Explore Italy: Italian Language and Cultural Program in Siena
Lakehead University is pleased to provide an exciting opportunity for the Italian Language and Cultural Program offered by Lakehead's partner in Italy, the University for Foreigners of Siena. Offered during the spring and summer semesters between May and August 2024, this four-week language program welcomes students from around the world to study Italian and learn about Italian culture. It offers a unique and highly enjoyable learning experience in the classroom, with its extracurricular activities and excursions to places of interest within the region.

The dabbers are calling! Join Frazer Phillips, Indigenous Cultural Wellness Facilitator, to try your hand at bingo, win some nutritious prizes, and learn the names of animals in Anishinaabemowin!.
(OR) safeTALK
safeTALK is a 4-hour, in-person workshop to build skills in suicide prevention. Participants will learn how to recognize and engage with someone thinking about suicide, overcome attitudes that act as barriers to help, talk openly about suicide and connect with intervention resources for further support.
Through presentations, audiovisuals, small group discussion and scenario practice, you will learn a 4-step TALK model and practical steps to help activate a suicide alert that connects people having thoughts of suicide with more specialized intervention care and relevant resources.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), like chlamydia and gonorrhea, can go unnoticed as they don't often cause symptoms so it is important to routinely get STI tests.
Student Health and Wellness, in partnership with the sexual health team at Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, is hosting drop-in, confidential STI testing at the Wellness Centre (OR 1012).
Drop by for a test, get a free slice of pizza, and pick up sexual health supplies for future consensual activities.
