About the Speaker

Lenore Keeshig was born on Neyaashiinigmiing on the Saugeen Peninsula. She is Anishinaabekwe, a journalist, storyteller, poet, and children’s author.

About the Presentation

Lenore will share “Stories of the Land from Residential and Indian Day School to Present Day,” honouring the survivors of Residential School and Indian Day School as ‘children in resistance,’ who passed on language and traditional stories that are central to cultural survival.  She will also bring Anishinaabe stories and current geological research together to discuss ‘geomythology,’ recognizing the key ways that indigenous stories enable our understanding of the land. Lenore will be introduced by Dr. Moira McPherson, President and Vice-Chancellor of Lakehead University.
