Before joining Lakehead in 2026, Dr. Alexandre Turgeon was a FRQSC Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Ottawa, Killam Visiting Professor of Canadian Studies at Bridgewater State University (2017), Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Québec Studies at SUNY Plattsburgh (2018), and a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at the Université de Montréal.
Specialist in memory-related political issues, Dr. Alexandre Turgeon’s current research is focusing on the links between history, collective memory, and social media. He has published widely on political cartoons, myths, collective memory, commemoration, and social media. His articles were published in The Canadian Historical Review, Histoire sociale/Social History, Journal of the Canadian Historical Association/Revue de la Société historique du Canada, Québec Studies, Revue d’histoire de l’Amérique française, Recherches sociographiques, and Études canadiennes/Canadian Studies, among others.
He has edited a special issue on political cartoons in Québec, published in Recherches sociographiques, and another on the Great Darkness, published in Mens : revue d’histoire intellectuelle et culturelle. He is currently preparing a special issue on the past, the present, and the future of the American Council of Québec Studies—the leading academic association dedicated to Québec studies in the United States—to be published in Québec Studies. His first monograph, Le « Désormais… » de Paul Sauvé. Un mythe du Québec contemporain, will be published in 2027 at the Éditions du Septentrion.
