Early Childhood Education Diploma to Honours Bachelor Degree with Concurrent Education Transfer Program
Program Information

Our Concurrent Honours Bachelor Degree programs allow you to earn a Bachelor of Education degree (BEd) as well as an Honours Bachelor degree in a partnering discipline. This degree combination will help you to develop your teaching knowledge, skills, and attitudes as well as your subject-matter expertise to teach learners well and to address the requirements of the Ontario curriculum.
Our Concurrent Honours Bachelor Degree programs can prepare you to teach in the Primary/Junior (P/J) or Intermediate/Senior (I/S) division. Once you complete a Concurrent Honours Bachelor Degree program, you will receive an Honours Bachelor degree, a BEd, and we will recommend you to the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) for certification to teach in Ontario.

How the Transfer Program Works
We will review your transcript and determine what transfer credits you will receive towards your degree program. In most cases, admits tend to receive 5 full course equivalents, which equates to approximately one year of university study. As a result, you may be able to complete your Concurrent Honours Bachelor Degree program in as little as 5 years. To see the courses that are part of the program, refer to our Academic Calendar and select:
- Programs & Faculties from the menu,
- Undergraduate Programs from the Faculty of Education section,
- Department of Undergraduate Studies in Education at the bottom of the page,
- Six-Year Concurrent Honours Bachelor Degree Programs from the list of programs,
- Select your specialization of choice (P/J or I/S), and
- Select your program of choice from the list of programs.
Admission Requirements
To be consider for admission, you must:
- Complete a two-year Early Childhood Education Diploma (ECE) from an accredited Ontario college, and
- Achieve an overall average of at least 75%.
Many of the Concurrent Honours Bachelor Degree programs have additional program-specific prerequisites (refer to the drop-down menu) that you will need to satisfy in order to gain admission. Your ECE diploma satisfies the requirements for the following programs:

- Geography (Arts, Arts & Science degrees)

- Interdisciplinary Studies with various concentrations
- Music (you will be required to complete an audition and theory test)
- Outdoor Recreation

- Visual Arts (no portfolio required)
- Women's Studies
Application Process
To apply, please:
- Use the OUAC Undergraduate Application. You may need to create an account first, if you have never applied using the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) before.
- Select either Education (Primary/Junior - Teach Kindergarten to Grades 6) (Thunder Bay & Orillia) or Education (Intermediate/Senior - Teach Grades 7 to 12) (Thunder Bay Campus only). The OUAC program codes are AK and AL, respectively.
- Select your program and campus of choice using the Subject of Major Interest drop-down menu.
- As you proceed through the application process, use the Online Transcript Request to have your transcript(s) sent to us, if applicable:
- We require all of your post-secondary transcripts (i.e. from all colleges and universities attended).
- We do not require your high school transcript.
- Some colleges do not add in progress courses to their transcripts. If you are currently completing courses, you are encouraged to upload a screenshot of your upcoming winter term courses to your myInfo account. You will receive your myInfo login credentials in an acknowledgement email from us upon receipt of your application (which can take a few days after you apply using the OUAC).

If you cannot access myInfo (our student information portal), try to recover your account first. If that does not work, contact Student Central.
Fees
Learn more about the tuition & student fees for your transfer program. Keep in mind that the upcoming school year's fees are not available until June. Before June, you will most likely see last year's amounts. Refer to the Academic Year field if you are unsure.
