Reporting to the Director of Student Affairs, Orillia, the incumbent organizes and oversees, directly or indirectly, all varsity, extramural, recreational, and intramural related activities at the Orillia Campus.

 

NOTE: This position will be scheduled for up to 24 hours per week through December 2015, and will shift to a full time, 35 hour/week, schedule from January 1, 2016 to March 31, 2016.  Some evening and weekend work is required.

 

The following is a brief outline of responsibilities:

 

Duties:

  • Assist with all aspects of Intramural & Recreation Programming including but not limited to scheduling, training officials, securing facilities and maintaining equipment inventory
  • Provide leadership and administrative support to Varsity and Extramural athletes and coaches, includes travelling with teams and holding coaches and players to high standard based on both OCAA/CCAA and internal policies and procedures
  • Assist with Marketing and Promotion of athletics and recreation programming
  • Supervise and train student staff for intramural and recreation initiatives
  • Accept payments for athletics and recreation fees, manage team budgets, and reconcile invoices
  • Plan and execute annual Athletics banquet

 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Recreational Studies, Physical Education, Business, Liberal Arts, or related field along with a minimum of 2 years direct employment related experience, including experience coordinating, participating in, or coaching a varsity sport at the high-school level or higher (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience). Well-developed communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, an ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines, as well as the ability to set priorities is necessary. The incumbent must be able to operate with limited supervision. Completion of emergency First Aid training, including CPR is required.

College Transfer Student Mentorship Program Coordinator

Specifically, the College Transfer Student Mentorship Program Coordinator will:

  • Review existing literature about college transfer students retention through mentorship
  • Develop a mentorship program at Lakehead that incorporates current institutional research and establishes benchmarks of success
  • Recruit and train senior students who are willing to mentor new college transfer students
  • Outreach to new college transfer students to develop interest in the program
  • Create promotional materials to highlight program and its events
  • Develop incentives for participation
  • Work within budget guidelines and limits
  • Create a report that describes the project, the program developed, and the assessment procedures and results

Qualifications:

Multi-Media Learning Project Coordinator

  • Build a library of resources for online learning from existing materials and create new resources as needed that cover key topics and fundamentals of University writing and mathematics
  • Create visuals for materials posted online, including videos, infographs, web graphics, etc. that comply with University visual guidelines
  • Refine resources based on student feedback, ensuring there is coverage of different learning styles
  • Launch the materials online, using platforms that maximize accessibility, with ongoing monitoring to assess their usefulness to student learning
  • Create a report that describes the project, the materials developed and the assessment procedures and results

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree with demonstrated understanding of student learning theory
  • Ability to develop learning materials based on users learning styles that adapt well to various media and learning tools
  • Demonstrated ability to develop scripts and direct videos
  • Capable of meeting budget allocation and timelines

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a Law and Security Administration or Police Foundations Diploma, and/or University degree or equivalent combination of education (minimum grade 12) and experience;
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Private Security & Investigative Services License;
  • Sufficiently proficient in the use of PCs to utilize reporting and searching programs to assist in daily duties, submission of reports, investigations and familiarity in Datatel Colleague systems an asset;
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques and/or experience in security an asset;
  • Familiar with or capable of learning the basic operation of various security video systems and retrieval of video data relating to incident;

Reporting to the Associate Registrar, the Academic Advisor will provide comprehensive information and academic advice to new and existing students while adhering to academic policies, regulations and procedures.  Specifically, the Academic Advisor will evaluate and interpret audits for graduation, advise students experiencing academic difficulties, as well as assist students in gaining understanding of and interpreting regulations, policies and program requirements. Additional responsibilities include providing registrarial support through the management of the Program Change process as well as support with course selection and registration.  It is the expectation that the Academic Advisor will develop and evaluate strategies aimed at facilitating the success of students and their progression through their academic studies.  This position also provides a critical role in the coordination of convocation ceremonies.

The successful candidate will possess an undergraduate degree coupled with knowledge of advising and student development theories. An understanding of academic program requirements, regulations, timetable offerings and university services is considered an asset.  Additionally, the incumbent has a strong knowledge of various student groups and the associated challenges as well as supports required to ensure success.  With the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff, the Academic Advisor has excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills along with strong critical thinking, judgment and decision-making skills. Under the supervision on the Manager of Undergraduate Admissions, the Grade Import Project Specialist will be the primary lead on the Enrolment Services- Undergraduate Admissions' electronic grade import project. The position will explore the automated transfer credit functionality of Lakehead University's Student Information System, Ellucian Colleague; liaise with academic units to automate their credit equivalencies; and will populate transfer credit equivalencies into Ellucian Colleague.  

DUTIES:


  • Working with ERP resources, conduct a full review of the current functionality of Ellucian Colleagues' automated transfer credit equivalencies, with a primary focus on the Faculty of Engineering (Post-Diploma program) and college credit transfers, mapping all college credit equivalencies
  • Analyze and determine functionality issues and identify the impact to Enrolment Services;
  • Research other university's practices regarding Ellucian Colleague and how the platform is used for automated transfer credit equivalencies
  • Develop and test automated transfer credit program, creating a user friendly process complete with instructional manuals for future use and direction
  • Provide training to staff who will be using the automated transfer credit equivalency program
  • Interact with internal departments and external partners (universities, colleges, etc) in order to facilitate and implement the automatic credit transfer program
  • Assist with the completion of Phase I of the EDI Imported Grades and test equivalencies



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One to two years' experience working in a post-secondary education setting, with knowledge of secondary and post-secondary educational systems including admission cycle, admission policies and requirements;
  • Post-secondary education (preference in Computer Science) or equivalent education and experience;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), and an ability to work in a fast paced, diverse setting;
  • Demonstrated presentation and training skills

DUTIES:

  • Coordinate thesis process including monitoring of completion & processing of required forms, defense presentations, external examiner reviews; etc.
  • Notify students of course cancellations.
  • Coordinate student attendance at annual CPHA Conference.
  • Monitor submission of required travel forms of students selected to attend Department-subsidized conferences to ensure reimbursement to the student.
  • Coordinate Human Resources administrative requirements;
  • Maintain budget verifications and receipts of purchases;
  • Purchase relevant supplies; submit Maintenance work orders
  • Organize and maintain the office filing system;
  • Schedule meetings, events, equipment for Chair, faculty, etc.;
  • Respond to counter/telephone/e-mail/walk-in inquiries as required, directing inquiries as  necessary;

The successful applicant will have an MSW degree and be registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.  Knowledge of community resources in Simcoe, Muskoka, York, Durham, Peel, and Toronto is essential. Prior experience in Field Education or Social Work Education would be a strong asset for this position, as would experience working in a University setting.  The successful applicant will have strong program management, organizational, communication, and time management skills

A 12-month, full time technician positions is available in the Department of Biology. The successful incumbent will provide support for laboratories in required and elective undergraduate courses for multiple academic programs inside and outside of the Department and are a primary resource for increasing our students' understanding of biological concepts. As such, our technicians work closely with faculty and are crucial parts of Lakehead Biology's student-centred learning environment. They are also responsible for ensuring the safety of our students during laboratory work.

This position will support first-year Animal Biology and second-year Introductory Ecology courses. This staff member will play a critical role in improving our first and second-year retention rates by helping to inspire student learning and success. A demonstrated focus in animal biology is an asset, as is experience in effectively supporting or teaching large introductory undergraduate courses.

In addition to course preparation and support, Biology technicians also perform community service, outreach and administrative duties, including training undergraduate and graduate students as teaching assistants.

Applicants must possess an MSc or PhD in Biology or a related science and teaching and other experience relevant to the courses they will support. They must also be willing to work flexible hours both in the lab and in the field, be comfortable interacting with students and be able to deal with ambiguity and tight deadlines.
