ACCOUNTING ANALYST

Office of Financial Services

COPE, Level 8 - up to 12 month maternity leave replacement

 

Under the general direction and guidance of the Manager, Budgeting & Accounting, the incumbent will perform general accounting duties including internal transfer of funds, bank reconciliations, account analysis and investigation and other related duties.  Following is a brief outline of the duties and qualifications of the position.  A job fact sheet detailing the required duties is available in the Office of Human Resources.

 

DUTIES:

Record various journal entries & uploads such as charges to departments and accounts for services provided by University departments, corrections and adjustments of transactions and customs clearing;

  • Reconcile 6 bank accounts on a monthly basis;                                                                                               
  • Investigate unusual items;                                                                                                                                                  
  • Liaise with all departments that make deposits;                                                                                                                 
  • Work with banks and merchant providers to resolve issues & daily transactions
  • Examine statements and returned cheques for large or unusual items for follow-up;
  • Reconcile deposits, electronic transfers, credit card payments, etc.;
  • Run account analysis reports at month ends for operating (& balance sheet) accounts;
  • Other related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting with 2-3 years related experience;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Experience with computerized accounting systems and various office programs including Microsoft Office, primarily Excel;
  • Working knowledge of Ellucian/Colleague system;
  • Working knowledge of pertinent University policies and procedures;
  • Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills
  • Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, its regulations and other health and safety related legislation and standards.
