Under general supervision, reporting to the Director of Security Services, a Security Guard II performs duties for the purpose of preventing theft and vandalism, maintaining order, providing security for all University personnel, buildings and property, controlling traffic and parking, guiding students and visitors, and undertaking special investigation duties as required. Incumbents in this classification are subject to rotating shifts and day or night duty.
DUTIES:
- Monitor alarm panels for fires, intruders and equipment malfunctions and take appropriate action;
- Answer telephone inquiries and follow up with required information or response;
- Answer the University emergency lines and initiate appropriate action;
- Dispatch and relay information to Security Guards, Emergency First Response Team (EFRT), and Emergency Services (Police, Ambulance, Fire) as required;
- Monitor video feeds from various cameras on a continual basis;
- Responsible for issuing keys and receiving returned keys daily;
- Provide assistance and direction to visitors, staff and students;
- Receive and account for monies paid for parking fines, locker rentals, etc.;
- Provide clerical support such as filing, shredding, stuffing envelopes, labelling, etc:
- Enter data in various computer programs on a daily basis;
- Maintain University lost and found service;
- Complete and submit timely reports and administrative forms as required;
- Perform Security Guard I duties as required;
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a Law and Security Administration or Police Foundations Diploma, and/or University degree or equivalent combination of education (minimum grade 12) and experience;
- Must possess a valid Ontario Private Security & Investigative Services License;
- Sufficiently proficient in the use of PCs to utilize reporting and searching programs to assist in daily duties, submission of reports, investigations and familiarity in Datatel Colleague systems an asset;
- Knowledge of investigative techniques and/or experience in security an asset;
- Familiar with or capable of learning the basic operation of various security video systems and retrieval of video data relating to incident;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Strong customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion with emphasis on good human relations, courtesy, deportment and appearance;
- Ability to handle all security matters in a trustworthy and confidential manner;
- Ability to perform regular patrolling Security Guard duties (includes patrolling Lakehead University campus buildings and grounds on foot, by car and by bicycle; includes climbing stairs);
- Must possess a valid driver’s license (class “G” minimum) and maintaining a driving record ensuring insurable status for the operation of University vehicles;
- Willingness to perform rotating shift duty;
- Possess a valid first aid certificate and training in fire prevention;
- Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, its regulations and other health and safety related legislation and standards.

Course Description: Religious Studies 3501 YDE: This course will look at the religious dimension of films from two perspectives: 1) the representational, in which the film represents a theme or principle from a specific religious tradition (Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, for example); and 2) the cultural, in which the film shows how there is a religious dimension in all of life’s experiences. The narrative nature of religion, the search for deeper meaning in life, the relationship between science and religion, the quandary of good and evil, suffering and joy, the incarnation of awe, wonder and imagination, will be explored in an attempt to discover what Mircea Eliade calls “heirophanies” - disclosures of the transcendent and sacred in everyday life."

Position Qualifications: Successful candidates must have certification and/or experience in one or more of the aforementioned skills. She or he must possess excellent teaching skills, be equally proficient in both technical and people skills and have first aid training (Wilderness First Responder preferred). Successful candidates must have a demonstrated ability in organizing and managing instructional classes and wilderness trips. Overview
Lakehead University’s Department of Psychology invites applications for one Tenure-Track faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level to commence January 1, 2017. The Department has several undergraduate programs, along with Master and Doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology and Psychological Science.
The applicant would bring research, teaching, and clinical expertise to complement the research program of the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Mental Health and Addiction. The CRC’s current program of research and five-year research plan approaches Indigenous mental health and addiction in four interconnected directions with the following goals:
- Identify culturally and contextually appropriate targets of intervention and develop methods for measuring outcomes;
- Identify western evidence-based and traditional approaches that show promise for treating mental health and addiction issues among Indigenous people;
- Develop and test intervention approaches which bring together culture- and community-based knowledge with western-scientific methods; and,
- Disseminate new knowledge broadly in Indigenous communities, scientific communities, and among policy and decision-makers using accessible knowledge translation approaches.
In addition to complementing the CRC’s research program, the successful applicant should be able to contribute to the overall research and training needs of the Graduate Programs in Clinical Psychology - a strong commitment to the Scientist-Practitioner model of training is highly desirable for the position.
The ideal applicant will hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology and be eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO). Preference is given to candidates who have graduated from a CPA-accredited program and completed a CPA-accredited internship. Experience working clinically with First Nations children, adolescents, and adults would be a highly valued asset.
Knowledge of, and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in child development and child psychopathology would be an asset. Experience teaching at the graduate level and supervising graduate student research projects is highly desirable.

Overview
Lakehead University's Bora Laskin Faculty of Law invites applications for a tenure track position to teach within the Aboriginal and Indigenous Law curriculum. Rank of appointment is commensurate with qualifications, teaching, and research. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2017. The ideal candidate will have teaching and research expertise in Indigenous legal traditions. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with research and teaching expertise in either Anishinaabe law or Métis law or both. The Faculty invites candidates to discuss their experience engaging with the language, worldview, traditions, and protocols of an Indigenous people, and the ways in which their teaching and research address the relationship between Indigenous laws and Indigenous languages, worldviews, traditions, and protocols, where such is the case. The Faculty encourages applications from candidates who employ Indigenous pedagogy in their teaching, including land-based pedagogy.
The Bora Laskin Faculty of Law has a tripartite mandate, which includes a focus on Aboriginal and Indigenous law, environmental and natural resources law, and rural and small firm practice. The Faculty’s Integrated Practice Curriculum incorporates the requirements of articling into the Faculty’s three-year program. The Law Society of Upper Canada has approved the Integrated Practice Curriculum; as a result, successful graduates may be called to the bar in Ontario without completing a separate period of articles. Our faculty have experience practising law, and many of our courses include skills-based exercises. The Faculty encourages applications from those who have experience in the practise of Indigenous law, and who can incorporate Indigenous skills exercises into their courses.

The Faculty of Natural Resources Management, Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus is seeking a Contract Lecturer for Research Methods II, NRMT-5530-WA for the Winter session of 2017 (Jan. 9 – Apr. 30, 2017).
Course description for Research Methods II:
The design, execution and analysis of forestry experiments. Four basic design structures are treated: completely randomized, randomized complete blocks, split-plot, and nested. One way, factorial and nested treatment structures are discussed. Additional topics include incomplete block designs, fractional factorial designs and response surface designs. Students learn how to decide whether a proposed design is well suited to their purposes and how to make ill-suited designs better. As a term project, students execute, analyze and report on an experiment of their own design.
This course is conducted in 2:3 format for lectures and labs.
Qualifications of applicant should include: PhD in Forestry, Ecology, Geography, Environmental Studies/Science, Biology or related field. Must have relevant teaching experience.

Course description for Renewable Energy Resources:
A review of major global sustainability issues such as poverty, population growth, water issues, energy demand and supply, air pollution, as well as regional economic scenarios. Students will be exposed to the long-standing practice of seeking global consensus on issues such as curtailing of GHG emissions, poverty alleviation and foreign aid. This course will focus on describing different pathways for energy provision in different parts of the world. This will include comparisons with traditional fossil fuel and nuclear power options. Students will investigate various alternatives from both a technical perspective and potential for implementation linked to societal, political, and economical constraints. Special attention will be given to the African continent, China and India.
This course is conducted in 3:0 format for lectures.
Qualifications of applicant should include: Master’s degree in Forestry, Ecology, Environmental Studies or related field, understanding of major energy systems including wind, hydro, oil and gas, coal, nuclear, bio-fuels, solar, thermal, geo-thermal as well as waste incineration. Course description for Environmental Assessment:
Forest management is increasingly being seen as a form of land development that should be subjected to both informal and formal environmental impact assessment. This course introduces both the theory and practice of environmental assessment, focussing on federal and provincial processes for environmental assessment, scientific and planning tools for undertaking assessments, and appropriate roles for the various stakeholders and groups interested in the environmental effects of forest-management activities.
This course is conducted in 3:0 format for lectures.
Qualifications of applicant should include: Master’s degree in Forestry, Ecology, Environmental Studies or related field, understanding of Canadian EA policies and forest certifications systems. Knowledge of common tools and procedures as well as abilitity to demonstrate actual case-studies – both routine and problematic.

An introduction to the basic marketing principles. The course will help students learn the concepts for conducting market research and developing marketing intelligence for the forestry sector.

Qualifications of applicant should include: Master’s degree in Forestry, Business Administration, Ecology, Environmental Studies or related field, understanding of the various North American and global trade arrangements in place (or proposed), appreciation for opportunities and threats with traditional as well as new product lines for import/export. Overview
The Faculty of Natural Resources Management, Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus is seeking a Contract Lecturer for Forest Entomology, NRMT-3217-WA for the Winter session of 2017 (Jan. 9 – April 30, 2017) .
Course description for Forest Entomology: Lectures and laboratories are designed to give an understanding of insect identification, population dynamics of forest insects and how insects interact with trees and forests. Tools for managing insect populations are presented. An insect collection is required; a workshop on how to collect, preserve and mount insects will be given at the end of the winter semester of the second year to give students an opportunity to collect during the spring and summer.
This course is conducted in 2:3 format for lectures and labs.
Qualifications of applicant should include: PhD in Forestry, Ecology, Biology, or related field, understanding of Canadian plants species, understanding of forest ecology, and relevant recent teaching experience in a university undergraduate setting. Must be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of domestic and invasive forest insects (both defoliators and bark beetles) posing economic and ecosystem health challenges (including urban forests) in Canada. Experience with distance education is desirable.

Course description for Forest Ecology & Silvics: An introduction to the concepts of structure and function in a forest context. Principles of 1) production ecology, 2) biogeochemical cycling in forest systems, 3) community dynamics and succession and 4) ecosystem ecology will be explored. Impacts of human-induced and natural disturbance events will be discussed. The laboratory portion will emphasize the scientific approach to investigation including literature reviews, collection of data, application of statistical tests and interpretation of results.
This course is conducted in 2:3 format for lectures and labs.

Research Chair in Radiochemistry for Molecular Imaging and Advanced Diagnostics
Overview
Lakehead University, in partnership with the Thunder Bay Regional Research Institute (TBRRI), invites applications for a new Lakehead University/TBRRI Research Chair in Radiochemistry for Molecular Imaging and Advanced Diagnostics. The position will be tenure-track or tenured and available in any academic rank at the University depending on the candidate's qualifications. The successful candidate will be appointed in one of three faculties: Engineering, Science and Environmental Studies, or Health and Behavioural Sciences. Candidates will have a PhD in a relevant Science or Engineering discipline and a minimum of two years experience post-doctorate. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake an externally funded research program related to the broad field of medical imaging technology and applications, and specifically a program that studies medical applications of radioisotopes, making use of the Advanced Cyclotron Systems TR-24 Cyclotron operated by the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. The candidate should have expertise in the use and handling of radioisotopes, understanding of regulatory standards for radiochemicals, and familiarity with the functioning of a cyclotron. Candidates without direct experience with a cyclotron must have significant relevant research experience in some other aspect of radiochemical, medical, or pharmaceutical research. Engineering candidates are expected to be registered professional engineers or qualified and willing to pursue such designation in the Province of Ontario.
The successful candidate will bring an innovative perspective to the University in carrying out and leading research, and contribute to undergraduate and graduate training at the University. The Chair?s expertise will complement research underway at Lakehead University and TBRRI. The Chair will contribute to the on-going initiative to develop an interdisciplinary program in Medical Biophysics and Imaging at Lakehead University. Ph.D. programs are currently available in Biotechnology, Chemistry and Material Science, Electrical Engineering, and Psychology. The Chair will be given a competitive salary, start-up package, and a reduced teaching load.

Achievement Program Coordinator
Overview
Full-Time, Permanent Position
Working alongside several departments within the University community, and reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Achievement Program Coordinator provides strategic direction, resource planning leadership and administrative oversight to encourage participation and enrolment of students and families into an undergraduate pathway to Lakehead University. This position is a key leadership role within the university, promoting communications and relationships between internal and external partners in the university as well as local and regional communities, including local school boards, community social services agencies, the Office of the President, Aboriginal Initiatives, Recruitment, Student Awards & Financial Aid and External Relations. DUTIES:
- Leading the Team Achievement program and developing strategies for growth and advancement of the program vision and priorities;
- Responsible for the organization, planning and execution of all program activities, including materials and supplies that support curriculum development, applicant information and program marketing;
- Market and promote the program to youth participants, families and program partners
- Provide training and orientation to volunteers, part-time staff and to coordinate performance evaluation opportunities;
- Create outreach opportunities to engage students, faculty and staff;
- Coordinate and arrange all transportation and accommodation for Team Achieve youth and their chaperones attending on-campus Team Achieve events; coordinate speakers for events;
- Coordinate and organize Team Achieve Days;
- Develop and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, program participants and donors;
- Proactively seeks out new opportunities for partnership to encourage program growth and retention;
- Oversees the preparation, managing, monitoring budgets;
- Ability to travel to remote locations as required;
- Other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education degree or certificate, preferably in Education, Social Work, Marketing, Business or combination education, skills and experience related to program curriculum development;
- Comprehensive understanding and expertise in coordinating programs and working with children and youth;
- Knowledge of the socioeconomic barriers to education;
- Knowledge of the Ontario curriculum;
- Financial management experience;
- Experience in managing staff, with a crucial competency in teamwork;
- Ability to nurture and steward existing relationships;
- Ability to develop, design and implement strategy;
- Proficiency with computer software programs, including the Microsoft Office and Adobe suites, as well as webpage management;
- Experience with Datatel/Colleague for budget reporting, purchase requisitions, et cetera considered an asset;
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work and handle all office duties in a confidential and diplomatic manner;
- Ability to multitask a variety of high priority duties and work under the pressure of deadlines;
- Demonstrated ability to provide support and assistance with cultural competency in all interactions;
- Ability to work independently.
