The LUWSP-SS is an opportunity for departments and faculties to provide eligible undergraduate students, full-time work (30 hours/week minimum) during the spring/summer term through the provision of a subsidy (includes wage and payroll deductions). This provides an invaluable opportunity for students to work with and be mentored by Lakehead University faculty and staff.
Subsidy & Cost to Employ a Student:
All payroll costs are covered by the employer during the terms. The subsidy will be provided to eligible employers once the position has been reconciled in late October. The Job Posting form is available on the MySuccess portal. Login as an "Employer” (separate password from myInfo) or as “Staff & Faculty” using your myInfo credentials and select the following from the Dashboard: Jobs & Volunteer Postings > Lakehead University Work Study Program > Post a Job button near the top
- February 1- 28 annually: Portal open to employers to submit a Job Posting request (deadline extended if positions available)
- March 1 – June 30: Portal open to students to apply for eligibility for work study for the spring/summer
- March 1 annually: Job postings live on portal in the afternoon
- June 30: Deadline to hire a student for a spring/summer work study position (paperwork to HR)
- Work Term: April 23, 2023 – August 26, 2023 (18 weeks)
Additional Information & Resources:
All proposed positions submitted by the last day in February will be given equal consideration; however, there are no guarantees that positions submitted will be approved. To ensure that work placement positions are available in as many departments as possible, multiple requests from the same department will be approved as space allows. To be eligible for the subsidy, the position must be approved and the student hired must be eligible.
Out of fairness to all eligible students, employers should wait until after the closing date of the posting to contact those individuals who they wish to interview. It is recommended that students have confirmed eligibility before being interviewed. Eligible students will be provided with a personalized Confirmation of Eligibility and Hiring Form which can be submitted with their cover letter and resume or provided at the time of the interview. Students should not begin working before paperwork is submitted to Human Resources or before the date that their eligibility was approved on the Confirmation of Eligibility and Hiring Form.
