Reporting to the Associate Registrar, the Academic Advisor will provide comprehensive information and academic advice to new and existing students while adhering to academic policies, regulations and procedures.  Specifically, the Academic Advisor will evaluate and interpret audits for graduation, advise students experiencing academic difficulties, as well as assist students in gaining understanding of and interpreting regulations, policies and program requirements. Additional responsibilities include providing registrarial support through the management of the Program Change process as well as support with course selection and registration.  It is the expectation that the Academic Advisor will develop and evaluate strategies aimed at facilitating the success of students and their progression through their academic studies.  This position also provides a critical role in the coordination of convocation ceremonies.

The successful candidate will possess an undergraduate degree coupled with knowledge of advising and student development theories. An understanding of academic program requirements, regulations, timetable offerings and university services is considered an asset.  Additionally, the incumbent has a strong knowledge of various student groups and the associated challenges as well as supports required to ensure success.  With the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff, the Academic Advisor has excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills along with strong critical thinking, judgment and decision-making skills. Preference will be given to individuals with a strong advising experience in an academic setting and/or those with a background in education, human services/counselling.
