Become trained in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
ASIST is a two-day, interactive workshop that teaches participants how to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. You don't have to be a professional in mental health to make a difference. ASIST is a globally recognized suicide intervention training program. Learn practical, life saving skills in a supportive environment.
What to Expect:
Learning suicide first-aid skills and how to focus on "safety-for-now."
Exploring our personal attitudes, beliefs, and experiences surrounding suicide.
Opportunities to practice these skills with the support of your peers and trainers.
Please note that full attendance for both days is required unless there is an emergency situation.
Details:
Thursday January 22 and Friday January 23rd, 9am - 5pm
Simcoe Hall, Room 3041.
Snack will be provided but lunch is not included.

Take a mindful break and join us for an engaging Lunch & Learn exploring the healing power of art psychotherapy. This interactive session introduces how creative expression can support mental health, emotional awareness, and stress management in everyday life.
Led by Brooke Kalverda (an Art Psychotherapy Student at the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy), you’ll learn the basics of art psychotherapy, how it’s used in therapeutic settings, and why creativity can be a powerful tool for self-reflection and well-being. Participants will also take part in a brief, guided art activity designed to encourage relaxation and insight; no artistic skill or experience is needed. Brooke is also taking on student clients as part of her clinical placement at the Lakehead Wellness Centre, so this is a great opportunity to learn about referrals and how to get connected!
Bring your curiosity and an open mind. Whether you’re a student, staff member, or simply interested in mental wellness, this session offers a welcoming space to learn, reflect, and connect through creativity. All materials provided. Lunch will also be provided! Registration is required so we know how much food to get and dietary needs. Register here.
