Please join us for an evening honouring our lost and stolen sisters.

This vigil will include a Sacred Fire for prayer offerings, as well as a documentary screening in room OA  1033. The documentary, Mshkawziikwewag: Strong Women, was created by one of our own community members and holds a special place in our hearts.

This event is also a space for comforting family members and friends mourning those lost to violence.

This event is offered in partnership between Orillia Native Women's Group and Lakehead University Indigenous Initiatives and Student Health and Wellness.

You are invited to Wiigwasitig Gitigaan ‘Birch Tree Garden’ Harvest!

Join Student Health & Wellness, Indigenous Initiatives, and Orillia Native Women's Group (ONWG) from 10 am to 12 pm to harvest sweet grass in the Medicine Wheel Teaching Garden. 

Gardening is a fun and relaxing activity that supports many facets of wellness including emotional, spiritual, physical, and mental wellbeing. It helps distract the mind, putting it into a quiet and relaxed state, while positively impacting mood and brain chemistry. Please bring water, a hat and sunscreen. Light refreshments will be provided. Everyone is welcome.

Sisters in Spirit Day is a day we honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQ+ peoples (MMIWG2S). In 2021, the rate of gender-related homicide of Indigenous victims was more than triple that of gender-related homicides of women and girls overall. 

Join Student Health & Wellness at Heritage Place for a Tea & Chat to honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQ+ peoples. Learn about the 231 Calls for Justice from the National Inquiry into MMIWG2S, and implement a Call to Justice within your own life.
