Hours of Work

Wednesday - Friday - 11am - 7pm and Saturday - Sunday - 8am - 4pm.  When required, hours of work and location may be modified to suit the needs of the University.

Job Duties

  • Clean and maintain cleanliness standards in student housing.

  • Participate in the moving and setup of furniture and equipment for Residence and Food & Conference • Services functions on and off campus based on Action Sheets and Work Orders provided by Food & Conference Services.

  • Maintain conference locations on and off campus, outdoors or indoors, which could include cleaning and movement of tables, chairs, conference equipment, refuse containers etc.

  • Maintain inventories of supplies.

  • Complete housekeeping turnovers for hotel/suite style accommodations.

  • Clean and sanitize washrooms and replenish supplies as required.

  • Dust and/or wash furnishings, desks, fixtures, walls, windows, conference equipment etc.

  • Remove refuse and garbage from Residence buildings and conference set up locations, clean waste containers and disposal units.

  • Promptly report fire, vandalism, and other matters of an irregular nature to supervisor or to Security. 

  • Participate in minor work tasks relative to the maintenance and repair of University buildings, equipment and furniture and complete Residence Housekeeping work orders.

  • Replace burned out lamps in Residence areas as required.

  • Report all major hazards, repairs or alterations and service malfunctions for assignment to the appropriate department.

  • Maintain floors by mopping, vacuuming, washing, stripping and waxing using appropriate equipment.

  • Participate in the removal of snow/ice from assigned building entrances and emergency exits.

  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS Regulation, other health and safety related legislation and standards and with such workplace practices as outlined by the immediate supervisor.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 education.

  • Experience in custodial, use of small hand tools.

  • Must have a current, valid driver’s licence of the appropriate class, with a good driving record.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling heavy objects (occasionally over 100 lbs.), working at heights (scaffolding and ladders – may involve heights above 20 feet), awkward positions, kneeling, and performing overhead work.

  • General knowledge of recognized practices and safe work habits and techniques employed in  custodial work.

  • Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations and other health and safety related legislation and standards.

  • Ability to operate the appropriate machinery for the position (e.g. wet/dry vacuums, carpet extractors, buffing machines, auto scrubbers, etc.).

  • Aptitude for general maintenance functions (checking and cleaning connections, filling batteries, etc). Ability to deal courteously with staff, students and the general public. 

  • Proven good work record, attendance and punctuality.

 

A conditional offer of employment will be extended to the successful applicant. Reporting to the Bookstore Manager, the Bookstore Clerk’s primary role is that of a customer service representative. The following is a brief outline of the responsibilities.

Job Duties

  • Serve as the first point of contact for internal and external customers;
  • Perform daily cash transactions on the POS system ensuring all transactions are handled in an accurate and timely manner;

About this Job

The overall purpose of this position is to provide LUPC trainees with skills and practice in developing

therapeutic relationships, assessment and intervention skills, and appropriate clinical documentation in

fulfillment of their practicum requirements for graduation. It will also better-prepare students for

external practicum placements.

 

The type of clinical training will depend on the Clinical Supervisor’s practice area(s) and competencies,

as well as the service needs identified by our community stakeholders.

 

Job Duties

 

  • Providing clinical psychology supervision to MA-level Clinical Psychology students throughout the 28-week contract. There may also be an opportunity to supervise senior (doctoral) students
  • gaining experience with supervision (“supervision of supervision”); dependent on the clinical service and Clinical Supervisor’s skill set.
  • Reviewing trainee documentation and reports, as relevant to the clinical services provided.
  • Maintenance of Client and Supervision records per legislation, professional standards, and LUPC policies.
  • Completion of trainee evaluation forms and ongoing communication with the Clinic Director and Department regarding individual training and possible needs for remediation.
  • Ensuring their own and trainee adherence to the College of Psychologists of Ontario regulatory Standards, professional ethics and guidelines, applicable legislation, and Lakehead University and LUPC policies and procedures.
  • Working with the Clinic Director to review clinic referrals to ensure they fall within the Clinical
  • Supervisor’s competency area(s) and determine suitability for trainee service provision.

 Qualifications

  • Registration as a Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
  • Preference will be for applicants with a doctorate in clinical psychology from a CPA- or APA-

accredited program.

  • Demonstrated professionalism with a clear promise of excellence in clinical supervision and

must have well-developed written and oral communication skills. 

  • Availability for in-person supervision preferred. Virtual may be considered.
  • Authorized practice with children and adolescents is an asset.

About this Job

Reporting to the Manager, Employee and Labour Relations the incumbent works collaboratively with the Human Resources team to assist with providing strategic advice, guidance, recommendations and support to the University’s management team and employees. Job Duties

  • Provide guidance and support to management and employees on positive employee relations.
  • Provide guidance to management on matters relating to workplace conflict and employee misconduct.
  • Assist with collective bargaining by researching industry data, identifying trends, surveying appropriate groups, developing proposal recommendations, assessing and analyzing current collective agreements, and participating on the negotiation committee.
  • Participate in the processing of grievances, including conducting research, preparing background documentation, briefing documents and summary reports.
  • Coach management with performance improvement approaches and strategies related to their employees and provide advice on development
  • Develop and deliver training programs for management and employees in areas of, employee and labour relations
  • Assist with research and keep current on emerging issues such as legislation changes, case law to ensure compliant and minimizing risks.
  • Develop processes to maintain and accurately track LR/ER metrics and prepare regular report, identify trends and emerging labour relations issues.
  • Develop, review, and advise on policies as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary education in Human Resource Management and a minimum of 5 years progressive experience in labour and employee relations. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A CHRP/CHRL designation would be an asset
  • Experience and advanced knowledge on matters such as employee/labour relations, performance management, investigations/fact-finding, discipline, workplace complaints and grievances.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including but not limited to the Ontario Human Rights Code, Labour Relations Act, Ontario Employment Standards Act.
  • Experience working effectively in a highly confidential and multi-disciplinary environment and building positive relationships with stakeholders. Experience in a University environment would be a definite asset.
  • Demonstrated success working in a highly collaborative and team-based environment.
  • Strong customer service focus with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

About this Job

The Recruitment Admissions Officer is a joint position between Undergraduate Admissions and Undergraduate Recruitment that serves as both a fully trained Admissions Officer and Student Recruiter. As an Admissions Officer, this position provides admissions counselling and conducts admissions assessments for current and prospective students. Hours of Work

Job Duties

The Space & Capital Planning Manager is responsible for three primary areas for the campus; roofing issues, hazardous materials, and minor renovations. These tasks require writing tenders and specifications, drafting required drawings, researching existing drawings, managing the tendering process, including conducting site visits and answering tender questions; awarding & managing the construction project and approving invoices. (This includes main campus, off campus buildings and Residence buildings and staff).

 

Managing the university's asbestos containing materials (ACM), requires understanding and adhering to, the OH&S Act, and Regulation 278/05, (asbestos regulation).  The regulation dictates that annually; audit all buildings with ACM & upload to a database (HMIS), train specific employee groups, including equipping with PPE, and respirator fit testing.  This position manages the required removals projects, as generated from the audit.  The Hazardous Materials portion of this position includes mould and lead paint remediation as additional duties. This position is also responsible for a variety of Physical Plant portfolios; such as the Council of Ontario Universities (COU) space study, capital planning software and auditing, campus roofs, insurance and small in-house projects.

 

Along with three to five years of experience in project management of construction projects and understanding of contract documentation, the desired candidate will possess a diploma in Architectural or Engineering Technology along with knowledge and experience of design, construction details, building envelope, general mechanical & electrical systems, and furniture for renovation projects and new builds.  They will have the ability to interpret and apply COU Space Study space factors, architectural standards and provincial & local building codes.

 

Previous asbestos work in construction training and a minimum of 5 years of experience in managing asbestos projects, including Type 3 removals; and strong understanding of managing asbestos, in a facility environment, where buildings and systems are interlinked, via a power house and occupied is preferred. Five years of experience in mould assessment & removal projects, and a strong understanding of OH&S Act and MOL guidelines is also preferred. Proficiency with AutoCAD is a must, and experience with Archibus, VFA/Accruent, HMIS (asbestos database), WHMIS, Health and Safety training, and familiarity with COU Space Study-Building Blocks is an asset.

 

The desired candidate will also be comfortable working from heights, obtain strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize, ability to attend onsite, at moment's notice, investigating building issues on roofs, interior & exterior of buildings, crawlspaces, asbestos removals and via lift devices.

Reporting to the Bookstore Manager, the Bookstore Clerk’s primary role is that of a customer service representative. The following is a brief outline of the responsibilities.

Job Duties

  • Serve as the first point of contact for internal and external customers;

Reporting to the Director of International Enrolment, the International Recruitment Officer recruits students from around the world to Lakehead University (all programs, at all campuses) by participating in and leading recruitment and outreach activities. The successful incumbent acts as Market Lead in the coordination, planning and execution of a portfolio of strategic recruitment outreach, marketing, conversion and relationship management strategies in target markets that ensures the University achieves its enrolment goals. The Human Resources Assistant provides a wide range of HR support services to the Office of Human Resources.

 

Job Duties

HR Administration

  • Process employee letters and forms related to new hires, departures, transfers, promotions,

leaves of absence, salary adjustments, etc

  • Entering and maintaining database records
  •  Setup and maintain employee files
  •  Distribute pertinent information to the payroll department
  •  Support managing the integrity of the HRIS system through reporting and auditing
  •  Be familiar with the Collective Bargaining Agreements and ensure compliance
  •  Assist with day-to-day operations of the HR functions and duties.

 

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Office Administration or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in a unionized environment working directly with HRIS as a Human Resources Administration Is desired. Those with a combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • High attention to detail, organization and time management is essential. Excellent research skills, a passion for customer service and keen attention to detail are also key factors for this role.
  • The successful incumbent must have a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, collective agreement interpretation and well-developed troubleshooting skills
  • Previous experience working at Lakehead University or with Ellucian/Colleague is an asset.

Reporting to the Manager, Treasury and Ancillary Accounting, the Accounts Payable Clerk is actively involved in ensuring all items requiring payment have adhered to the University’s Purchasing Policy and Controls & Signing Authority Policy. As an Accounts Payable Clerk for Lakehead, you will be responsible for processing invoices, cheques and travel expense statements.

Under the general direction of the Director, International Enrolment, the Manager, Agency Relations and Pathways will oversee the management, development, and review of Lakehead University’s global agency network of recruitment partners. This critical role ensures that the university’s agency relationships and engagement strategies align with the strategic priorities of the University, leading to the achievement of our international enrolment targets. The Manager, Agency Relations & Pathways is responsible for the review, selection, and contract signing of agents, their training & ongoing development, application supports and crisis response, performance management and incentive programs, and commission verification and processing. In addition, the Manager will oversee the network of pathway partners throughout Canada and in select global markets by providing selection, training, and recruitment support, and performance review and assessment on an ongoing basis.

The incumbent has post-secondary education in a related field, preferably in Business or International Business, and a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience working in a post-secondary setting in the field of student recruitment and marketing; preferably, with experience working within an agency model of recruitment. The incumbent has demonstrated skills in navigating sensitive and difficult conversations and demonstrated excellence in cultural awareness skills and navigating cross-cultural environments; with strong skills in diplomacy and the ability to interact and liaise with individuals from all levels within an organization. Excellent marketing, organizational, project/event management, judgement, decision-making and customer service skills is required. The incumbent must thrive in a high volume, target-driven environment, meet deadlines and handle stressful working conditions. The ideal candidate possesses a creative mind, is entrepreneurial in spirit, and is a self-starter who has a knowledge of emerging communication technologies (i.e. web development, e-communications, portals, social media). The ability to research, compile vast amounts of information, and develop recommendations and strategies based on this work is required. The incumbent is proficient in advanced levels of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and publishing programs and laptop technology.

A valid Ontario driver's license and a willingness and ability to travel on university business and be available for flexible work hours, sometimes involving evenings and weekends during key periods of the recruitment and conversion cycle, is required; the incumbent must be comfortable travelling far distances, with the ability to be adaptive and make decisions relating to the unpredictable nature of international travel.

Under supervision of the Manager, the incumbent’s primary role is that of a customer service representative. The following is a brief outline of the responsibilities.

DUTIES:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for internal and external customers;
  • Perform daily cash transactions on the POS system ensuring all transactions are handled in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Respond to emails and telephone inquiries pertaining to course materials in a timely fashion;
  • Open and close the Bookstore in accordance with store policies and procedures;
  • Monitor the floor and gates for security issues and notify immediate supervisor of issues;
  • Price, stock, tag and shelve course materials, general merchandise and stationery supplies;
  • Print, process and ship all online web orders using Bookware 3000 and select shipping partners;
  • As directed, pull and pack all course material slated for return;
  • Assist with the maintenance of spreadsheets as well as with the research and ordering of course materials;
  • Assist marketing initiatives involving on-campus digital display screens and other forms of social media;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education with post-secondary education considered an asset;
  • Minimum of one year of retail experience preferred;
  • Working knowledge of POS systems;
  • Must be mathematically competent;
  • Ability to effectively handle frequent interruptions while meeting deadlines;
  • Proficiency with PCs, email, general website maintenance, and various office programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Photoshop);
  • Familiarity with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Snapchat;
  • Ability to interact with students, staff and the public, exercising diplomacy and discretion;
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills;
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player;
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs on a regular basis;
  • Familiarity with Lakehead University routines, policies and procedures (i.e. Lakehead Calendar, Occupational Health & Safety Act).
