DUTIES:

 

  • Manages all forms of communication to administratively support the VPI providing complete customer service;
  • Responsible for projects and provides support to the VPI, International Relations team.
    • Monitors emails to the VPI, responding to those that are within the scope of position and referring others to be addressed by area experts;
    • Supports the Manager, International Relations in the tracking, reconciliation, and payment of travel expenses for the VPI, senior travel and incoming delegation visits;
    • Coordinates travel, manages the VPI’s schedule, prepare correspondence, work directly with the direct reports and direct inquiries to the appropriate department.
    • Supports communications with Lakehead International staff and arrange meetings as requested between the VPI and all direct reports and staff;
      • Fosters a positive and inclusive work environment that supports and promotes a culture where a diverse range of ideas and perspectives are incorporated into decision making

Due to the nature of the position, the ability to work outside of regular office hours to accommodate global time zones, special events, delegation visits and VPI travel is required on occasion.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration or related field;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an administrative support position, preferably in an International Relations or Educational setting;
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a senior administrative support position
  • Experience in working as a key contact for international partners, creating professional relationships and maintaining existing partnerships;
  • High degree of skill with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, and office equipment;
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to multitask, with excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision in a demanding, high-pressure environment. Respect for a strict code of confidentiality is essential.

The Senate-approved EPID@Work Research Institute is the injury and disability Research Institute for Northwestern Ontario. Established in 2018, the mandate of EPID@Work is to bring people together to reduce work-related injury and disability through collaborative applied research and provision of education to enhance knowledge related to injury and disability. The Institute recently became a partner with the Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development and holds a seat at the Ministry’s Prevention Research Partner’s Table. Information generated from our research informs practice and policies aiming to improve health and social outcomes in Northwestern Ontario and beyond. 

The goals of the Institute are to 1) conduct, high-quality, community-based, transdisciplinary research in the areas of work-related injury and disability prevention, with a focus on issues relevant to Northwestern Ontario; 2) participate in, develop and evaluate integrated knowledge exchange approaches with community stakeholders and the greater research community participating in all phases of the research process; and 3) provide an exemplary training and experience opportunity for the next generation of community-based transdisciplinary researchers in Northwestern Ontario and beyond. The research foci of the EPID@Work Research Institute (mental health in the workplace; equity, diversity and inclusion; and knowledge mobilization and implementation) fit well into the university’s priority research areas: Cultures, Societies and Social Justice; First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Research; and Health and Well-Being.

The EPID@Work Research Institute is seeking an administrative assistant who will support the Director of the EPID@Work Research Institute by carrying out a wide variety of administrative and minor research activities. This position is for three years, renewable depending on performance and/or funding. The Administrative Assistant will assist Dr. Kristman by carrying out a wide variety of administrative and research activities. Administrative activities include, but are not limited to, budgets and administrative support, such as managing calendars, organizing meetings, preparing agendas, taking and transcribing minutes of meetings for circulation, reviewing and sorting incoming mail, reviewing and preparing credit card statements, coordinating travel (knowledge of Concur travel system is an asset), coordinating arrangements for visitors to the university, developing and updating an EPID website, ordering office supplies and consumables, preparing and coordinating work orders with Physical Plant, and assisting with office technical support requests. Under the general direction Dr. Elaine Wiersma, the incumbent will work to enhance community capacity through knowledge translation and networking. The incumbent will plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate geriatric mental health and dementia education to interprofessional health and social care providers (with a specialized focus in Northwestern Ontario), family care providers, and people with lived experience to increase the local community capacity to provide support for geriatric mental health and dementia. The Library Technician - Access Services and Copyright will provide user-centred support at the library’s online and in-person service points. This work will include promptly and thoroughly answering email and phone inquiries, staffing the integrated services desk, and participating in the OCUL Ask a Librarian chat. In addition to reference and research support, the Library Technician will maintain patron records and facilitate the circulation of library materials by brief cataloguing, charging, discharging and renewing materials. Qualifications:

 

Candidates must have:

1. Specialized knowledge in an area of Indigenous, Black, Asian, Latinx, Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, global, postcolonial, or diasporic literary, film, or cultural studies relevant to Canada. Period open.

2. Specialized knowledge in documentary, speculative, narrative, and/or poetic modes of cultural production (at least one)

3. Demonstrated expertise with Indigenous, race, ethnic, and/or settler-colonialism studies;

4. A PhD in English, Cultural Studies, Film, Indigenous Studies, or cognate field received no earlier than July 1, 2017

5. An interest in environmental justice.

• Develop and undertake research for a case study that brings one of your own areas of expertise into understanding the racialized ecologies that subtend the Canadian nation-building project, including, where relevant, material or contexts sited outside Canada.

• Contribute to theorizing how the team’s studied creative texts and research questions may present new approaches to the documentary, poetic, and speculative in literature and film and to the methods and contexts studied in the environmental humanities.

• Contribute to gathering and interpreting a mixed-source archive of literary, cultural, and policy texts on periodized conjunctures of colonialism, labour and immigration management, technoscience, and ecological transformation.

• Contribute to team knowledge-sharing and research mobilization efforts, including planning team workshops, helping the preparation of a digital archive (training provided), managing and co-editing a journal special issue, and writing, presenting, and publishing a paper and co-written chapter.

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Psychology, the Psychology Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the Psychology undergraduate and graduate programs to facilitate student success and program sustainability. DUTIES:

Student Success and Admissions

- Provide first-line program advising to undergraduate students and program assistance to graduate students

- Oversee undergraduate and graduate student progression in the program and support student success, including degree audits, scholarships and awards, and graduate assistantships.

- Support the department to review and revise program curricula for continuous quality improvement

- Monitor websites, documents, policies, and the calendar to ensure students are able to navigate their programs in a coherent and organized manner

- Engage in outreach to students to promote success

- Coordinate admissions to the graduate programs and undergraduate thesis program

 

Practical Training

- Coordinate practical training in psychology, liaise with students and clinical sites, solicit and coordinate placements

- Maintain positive and professional relationships with placement sites, provide opportunities for feedback and networking

- Prepare, review, and implement policies relating to practical training in psychology

 

Clinical Test Library and Accreditation Coordinator

- Operate the clinical test library and archives, including supply management of consumable resources, making recommendations and arranging purchases

- Support the accreditation review process for the clinical doctoral program by managing statistics, documents, and tables, and by writing report drafts with the direction of the Clinical Program Director

- Organize accreditation site visits and annual updates to the clinical program manual

 

Community Education and Program Promotion

- Identify opportunities, plan, lead, organize, and present program promotion activities

- Oversee the gathering of information, news, and events, and produce and distribute newsletters and make updates to websites and social media

- Maintain an active social media presence for the department

- Oversee the development of a contact list for program graduates

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

- A Bachelor’s degree preferably in Psychology, plus 2 years of experience in an administrative role, or the equivalent education and experience;

- Familiarity with quality assurance, accreditation, and curriculum;

- Ability to organize and manage information and calculate statistics;

- Ability to represent the programs professionally and positively with community organizations, students, and potential students;

- Ability to work independently;

- A professional attitude and understanding of confidentiality;

- Computer skills including Excel, Word, Database software, scanning and filing, Google Drive, social media, and the university’s website and user interface platforms (MyInfo, Concur);

- Strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills

Lakehead University Orillia is a member of the Ontario Collegiate Athletic Association (OCAA); we are seeking a passionate and experienced coach to take the lead role with the Men’s Varsity Indoor Soccer program. This is a yearly casual position for the Indoor Soccer season leading local practices, friendlies, provincial tournaments and provincial championship competition. Reporting to the Wellness and Athletics Coordinator, Orillia, the Men’s Indoor Varsity Soccer Head Coach will oversee the development of the varsity indoor soccer program through the continued development of our student athletes.

 

Duties:

-        Player selection, recruitment and evaluation

-        Develop, implement, and evaluate annual training plans for team and individual players, including skills development, strength, conditioning, and technical preparation;

-        Conduct weekly practices and attend all games and tournaments (evenings and weekend required)

-        Travel with the team to competitions on university provided transportation

-        Oversee the health and safety of participants

-        Encourage student-athletes to maintain and develop strong academic standing

-        Act as a representative of Lakehead University Orillia and conduct oneself in a professional manner in accordance with University policy

-        Assist with management and administrative duties

-        The coach must be committed to the team and program by attending practices and games including weekdays, evenings and weekends.

-        The coach will follow OCAA policies and procedures and lead the program by example.

Qualifications:

-        3 years of coaching experience with indoor soccer at a competitive level

-        Possess coaching certification(s) (NCCP certification preferred)

-        Strong interpersonal, team building, conflict resolution and mediation skills

-        Excellent inclusive leader with superb communication and mentoring skills

-        Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, and strategies while building rapport with students, staff, faculty, and administration

-        Strong planning and organizing skills

-        Standard First Aid and CPR certificate is required

As an ambassador for Lakehead University, the Sustainability Coordinator will work in advancing the University’s efforts to become a recognized leader in sustainability through the continued development and implementation of the University Sustainability Plan. This position will do this by working      closely with senior administration and University partners to include high-level standards, measurable objectives, programs, and policies related to curriculum and research, incorporation of Indigenous worldviews and reconciliation, grounds, dining services, energy, waste, water, transportation, engagement, and planning. The Sustainability Coordinator conducts relevant research, logistics, reports, and planning needed to advance the Office of Sustainability.

 

Duties

-        Research, identify, and adapt sustainability best practices from other universities, corporations, and governments to advance sustainability at Lakehead. Recognize and promote sustainability as an interdisciplinary, integrated, adaptive, and justice-oriented concept, with social, cultural, environmental, and economic dimensions. 

-        Develop and maintain relationships with other universities' Sustainability Offices and organizations to assist with implementation of the Plan, knowledge sharing, and partnerships.

-        Develop long and short-term strategies for the implementation of the Plan, recommend changes needed to integrate sustainability principles into the academic and operational functions of the university, provide an annual progress report, and advance general sustainability initiatives.

-        Continue momentum from the Year of Climate Action, referring to its final report.

-        Coordinate campus-wide sustainability committees; in particular, provide support for the Lakehead University Sustainability Stewardship Council (LUSSC), its Working Groups, and the Sustainability Executive Advisory Committee.    

-        Provide advice and recommendations from best practice research to other Departments seeking to be more sustainable.

-        Visit Lakehead Orillia at least once a year to maintain partnerships, oversee Office of Sustainability initiatives there, and plan for a sustainability staff position on that campus.

-        Publicize, promote, and communicate Lakehead University's sustainability efforts within and outside the campus community.

-        Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

-        A Master’s Degree in a sustainability-related field.

-        At least three (3) years of demonstrable experience in the area of leadership in sustainability and sustainability best practices, preferably within a university setting.

-        Experience working with the public, community agencies, public organizations, and/or industry focusing on environmental programs and sustainability planning.

-        Experience working within a team of senior administrators, committees, and researchers.

-        Experience with developing and designing communication and outreach materials including visual identities, blogs, websites, and delivering high-level presentations.

-        Strong time-management and interpersonal skills.

-        Strong ability to work in an independent setting.

-        Strong analytical, planning, organizational, and administrative abilities.

-        Ability to interact with and mentor athletes within a post-secondary setting by utilizing effective organizational, communication, interpersonal, leadership and team building skills.
