Under the general supervision of the Manager of Server, Desktop & Client Services, the Helpdesk Technician will provide timely, accurate and seamless front-line support to students, faculty, and staff as it pertains to the University operations relating to hardware, applications and other relevant technologies.

 

DUTIES:

 

As the initial point of contact for reporting technical problems, the Helpdesk Technician is responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Analyzing client requests by phone, email, and in person, to provide clients with accurate, courteous, and clear technical assistance.
  • Creating and maintaining service requests via ticketing system, tutorial documentation, and contributing to an overall IT knowledge base.
  • Providing support for both remote and in person clientele on various University operations including applications, Windows domain services, printers, network access, telephony and remote connectivity (VPN).

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Post-secondary education in a computer related field along with demonstrated experience with Active Directory, Windows operating systems, MS Office/365 applications, Mac operating systems, Network (LAN/WAN) concepts, VPN technologies, mobile technologies, and printing solutions.
  • Previous experience in a Helpdesk role in a high-volume environment is preferred.
  • Possesses the ability to process and prioritize a high volume of work with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills are a necessity as well as the demonstrated ability to work with a variety of clientele at all levels.
  • Takes initiative to stay informed and trained on new and developing technology and systems as it pertains to the role.  
  • Proactive with technological changes and the desire to continuous learning are key factors to success within this role.

 

This position offers a competitive remuneration package including salary, comprehensive benefits package, life insurance, a pension plan and tuition waiver. Compensation offers are evaluated based on a combination of education, experience, qualification, and other pertinent factors. The hours of work is primarily a Monday to Friday day shift.

  • 2+ years of experience for donor stewardship and planning and executing events

  • Experience overseeing large budgets and preparation of financial statements
  • Strong skills in the following computer programs: Excel, PowerPoint, Word

As a valuable member of the Undergraduate Studies in Education (USE), the Professional Experiences Coordinator, Primary/Junior (P/J) Division, coordinates all activities in support of teaching placements, community education and outreach as they relate to the Primary/Junior division Teacher Candidates.

 

The Professional Experiences Coordinator clarifies, coordinates, and implements protocols and policies for faculty advisors, teacher candidates, associate teachers, and principals. They will support and mentor P/J Faculty Advisors, provide professional development opportunities to associate teachers and counsel teacher candidates, including candidates with additional challenges and placement needs. They will work closely with international students, establish and maintain partnerships with schools and NGOs regionally and nationally to provide students with alternative placement opportunities, and liaise regularly with the Chair and administrative team in Undergraduate Studies.

 

DUTIES

 

  • Coordinate and manage practicum components for all P/J division students enrolled in Bachelor of Education degree programs
  • Communicate regularly in person, by email, or phone with I/S Faculty Advisors during placement to support communication and decision making strategies, particularly with difficult placements.
  • Lead three half-day workshops with P/J FAs annually.
  • Coordinate and conduct pre and post practicum meetings with P/J Faculty Advisors (individual and small-group meetings)
  • Liaise with the Chairs to develop and coordinate alternative placements to develop, review, and revise student eligibility criteria, policy and procedures
  • Collaborate with, support, and co-supervise (along with the Chair) the Placement Officer in their role to ensure appropriate placements are secured for students
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver practicum orientation sessions to current and incoming P/J students.
  • Participate in and manage meetings to support students 'at risk', or following terminated placements
  • All other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Extensive knowledge of university education programs, and the field of education
  • Master's Degree in Education or related area an asset
  • Mental Health First Aid training is considered an asset
  • Experience as an administrator in an educational system (e.g. principal, professional development officer, curriculum officer, department head)
  • Experience with special education and/or ELL/ESL
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) due to regular interactions beyond student interactions with school administrators and teachers, potential placement partners, community groups, provincial affiliates, Ontario Ministry of Education, Ontario College of Teachers, faculties of Education, and committee work
  • Effective organizational, time management, planning, creative thinking, conflict management, problem solving, mentoring, and public speaking skills

3.    Must have a current, valid driver’s licence of the appropriate class, with a good driving record.

4.    Must have the following certifications (or the ability to complete certifications during the trial/probationary period): WHMIS, chainsaw certification, defensive driving certificate, forklift certification, current Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificate and any other related training during the trial/probation period (E.g. tractor operation, etc.)

5.    Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

6.    Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling heavy objects (occasionally over 100 lbs.), working at heights (scaffolding and ladders) and perform overhead work.

Reporting to the Manager of Food & Conference Services, the Conference Coordinator is responsible for providing conference (in person, virtual and hybrid), special event, and group consulting as well as planning and coordinating services to all user groups. Specific duties include compiling event details, negotiating contracts, confirming internal and external events with clients, submitting set-up, catering, parking and technical services requests, and virtual event services (webinar & meeting moderation, virtual conference set up and troubleshooting).   The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring client insurance and risk management policies are received, building policies are followed, responding to phone, email and in-person inquiries as well as various related administrative duties. The Summer Operation (May to August) includes transient & group overnight accommodations. The Conference Coordinator provides support and guidance to the Front Desk team for hotel operations, and promotes, plans and executes group accommodations. The Conference Coordinator must plan and engage with all stakeholders in respect to campus food services and catering needs. Additionally, this individual is responsible for the planning and scheduling of meetings, organizing files, conducting research, preparing final invoice reports, and assisting with accounting associated with all events including recording expenditures and remittances.  

 

The incumbent will have post-secondary education with relevant work experience in sales, hospitality, catering/food services and event management, a high degree of computer proficiency including experience with virtual event planning.  Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, including tact and courtesy along with exceptional attention to detail. The successful candidate will coordinate research projects related to Indigenous health, including the CIHR funded projects “Engaging for Change” which seeks to implement strategies to improve the provision of culturally safe health care for Indigenous peoples in Thunder Bay ON and “Waasegiizhig Nanaandawe’iyewigamig Mino-bimaadiziwin” (WNMB) which seeks to prevent cancer through traditional healing, including monthly traditional healing practitioner visits and seasonal medicine camps.

 

The position will be supervised by Dr. Lana Ray who is the principal investigator of the projects.

 

*There is the potential for this position to be a post-doctoral fellowship

 

Salary: $CAN 47,000/year + benefits

 

Term: 1-year with the possibility of extension for additional terms

 

Expected Hours: 35 hours/week

 

Start Date: Ideally the successful candidate would start August 15, 2022

DUTIES

 

 The Indigenous Health Research Coordinator will:

  • Plan and coordinate the initiation of research study protocol, and the establishment
  • of operating policies and procedures.
  • Prepare research ethics board applications
  • Coordinate and undertake research activities including interviews with health service providers and traditional healing clients
  • Transcribe interviews and focus groups
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities
  • Work collaboratively with Dr. Ray’s research assistants and graduate students
  • Plan, coordinate and keep records for advisory meetings and other relevant tables and engagement activities
  • Monitor the progress of research activities; develop and maintains records of research activities, and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies.
  • Contribute to writing peer-reviewed manuscripts and community knowledge translation activities
  • Support the development of grant applications to support future research studies

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Prior research and project coordination experience
  • Prior experience working with Indigenous communities and in the health care sector would be considered an asset.

Reporting to the Associate Registrar, the Records Officer is responsible for providing key support to the Associate Registrar in maintaining standards for data collection and maintenance for the purpose of government enrolment reporting. and production of student academic records. The Records Officer provides support to the Associate Vice Provost Enrolment & Registrar and the Associate Registrar by contributing to the improvement of the services and functionality of Enrolment Services - Academic Advising, Records and Registration to students, the University community, and the general public.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Developing new initiatives to streamline and improve the efficiency of student record keeping and coach data entry staff on new initiatives and processes
  • Maintaining and updating student records for Enrolment reporting and quality control
  • Monitoring transfer of student information  from Undergraduate Admissions and Graduate Studies to ensure quality and adherence to data quality
  • Verification of active programs, year levels and student types
  • Perform edit checks on all student record information
  • Advising and processing Letter of Permission and Student exchange applications and processes
  • Verification of Ontario Education numbers and International student registration details
  • Graduation/degree audit assessments for current students
  • Official transcript production, electronic and hard copy
  • Degree production
  • Liaise with program Chairpersons, Directors and Admins, student records, graduation, marks management
  • Update web pages, convocation, student registration, AARR services

 

Qualifications

 

  • Under-graduate degree preferred
  • Working knowledge of the University culture and organizational structure
  • In-depth understanding of University regulations and policies
  • Expertise with student information system (Ellucian - formerly Datatel/Colleague)
  • General knowledge of MTCU reporting and OEN generation

Excellent communication skills and an ability to interact empathetically, efficiently and easily with diverse ethnicities and various personalities

  • The successful candidate must be able to practice good judgment, effective time management and be a team player in a high paced, challenging environment with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Understanding of the federal and provincial privacy acts and the ability to work in a tactful and confidential manner
  • Working knowledge of Trusted Links, Ontario Universities' Electronic Transcript System/SPEEDE/ExPRESS standards, Content Management System, DLI reporting

Job Description:

 

During the placement, the intern will be assisting research on our post-COVID-19 MRI imaging lung study. This position will focus on conducting research and the regulatory process underlying it.

1. Assist with ongoing experiments in Hyperpolarized (HP) 129Xe MRI imaging and research

coordination that are both clinical and pre-clinical in nature.

2. Initial calibration of quadrature flex lung coil using both thermally polarized and

hyperpolarized 129Xe phantoms to optimize the transmit power MRI settings.

3. Perform statistical data analysis including T-tests, Welch's tests, as well as correlation and

regression analyses.

4. Optimize repetition time, echo time, and k-space trajectories for post-COVID gas transfer

impairment detection with the highest possible sensitivity.

5. Perform image quality analysis (i.e. SNR calculations, CNR calculations, and image artifact

identification).

6. Perform histogram image analysis for post-COVID-related gas transfer impairment detection.

7. Assessment of ventilation heterogeneity via local HP 129Xe signal variance calculation.

8. Contribute to protocol writing, creation and maintenance and organization of study

documents, and coordination of experiments, for clinical trial and research studies.

9. Assist with preparing and maintaining the research project's regulatory and administrative

documents, contributing to the presentation/dissemination of research results, manuscript and

research application preparation, and outreach.

 

Candidate Criteria:

 

- Candidate must be a new entrant into the workforce, are transitioning to a new career, or be unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field

- Candidate must have not previously participated in an NOHFC funded internship in the 2020 Mandate

- Candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada

The Student Central Professional is responsible for providing independent, immediate, proactive, and reactive diagnostic support and problem resolution to students on a broad range of functions including, but not limited to, academic and financial aid eligibility, admission, transfer credit, registration and enrolment issues. Through the comprehensive interpretation and application of various policies, procedures, rules and regulations, the Student Central Professional will counsel students on program requirements and eligibility, assessment decisions, options for financial aid and funding, OSAP reviews, as well as the enrolment cycle. Other duties include reviewing and guiding students regarding account information as well as discussing student financial aid and academic concerns and issues in order to determine the best course of action for the student to pursue while explaining and documenting the ramifications of such courses of actions (i.e. reduction of course load, withdrawals, academic and financial aid appeals, etc.) in an effort to ensure the student is making an informed decision.  

 

It is the expectation that the Professional will guide students through their enrolment in order to become self-reliant in terms of their educational pathways and choices. This role includes providing support to many student populations to guide them through their educational journey, and assisting in the execution of proactive recruitment campaigns, early outreach and support initiatives for students. Participation in the University’s Convocation ceremonies is also part of this role.

 

The position requires a high level of customer service and engagement, which may require variable hours of work based on operational needs.

 

Candidates to this position must have completed a university degree along with at least 3 to 5 years of experience in a student service advisory role. The successful candidate has the demonstrated ability to respond to student needs with a holistic approach as well as strong working knowledge of University policies and procedures and the functions within Undergraduate Admissions, Student Awards & Financial Aid, and Academic Advising, Records & Registration. An outstanding communicator with demonstrated ability to respond to student needs with a holistic approach, the successful candidate also has the ability to analyze and interpret data. Additional qualifications include excellent critical thinking and advanced problem-solving capabilities along with the ability to use sound, professional judgment in making complex decisions. Your superior student service skills are combined your ability to work with diverse populations using tact and cultural sensitivity. Project management and event planning skills and experience would be considered an asset. Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office, the successful candidate also has a demonstrated knowledge of Colleague (Datatel) as it pertains to Admissions, Student Awards & Financial Aid, and Academic Advising, Records & Registration.
